where do souls or spirits go at death?

Hello, I’m really not sure about any of this. Where does our soul go at death? And, where does our spirit go at death? Does one or the other simply cease to exist at death? Some say we sleep until Resurrection Day, some say we’ll be with the Lord, some say purgatory. If our soul or spirit or both are already with the Lord as some say, what happens at the resurrection of the body? I just don’t get it and I can’t find any scripture that makes sense without contradicting a different scripture elsewhere referring to the same subject. It just isn’t clear enough to understand. Can you please shed some light on this from a Roman Catholic point of view? Thank you and God bless you.
