Hello, Just looking for some suggestions. I am a 36 year old woman. I am a teacher and am pretty active in my church. I am not interested in going out much other than the occasional happy hour with friends. So my opportunities to meet single men are limited. I am on summer break in two weeks and am trying to think of things I can do where men may be. I enjoy volunteering but seem to end up volunteering where mostly women or older married men are. I live in Az. so outdoor activities during the day are out. Just thought I would throw it out there and see if anyone has any interesting suggestions. Another thing is I like to keep myself busy and engaged so I am always looking for different things to do in the summer.
Thanks 👍!

Go eat at the local Petro City (or other big truck stop chain). Lots of men, and they are happy to talk! Just make sure they aren’t married!

Otherwise, do what YOU like to do.

My husband hangs out at the ice skating rink for the various “adult sessions”, and at the moment, there are three SINGLE very handsome, non-gay men who hang out there too, because they enjoy the sport of figure skating. One of them is only in his early 20s, one is about 30, and the other is 50.

There are also single men who work as Zamboni techs and in the office, and at least one of the male coaches is single (in his 60s, divorced, very sweet man).

So maybe give your local ice skating rink a try! We have had at least one marriage through the skating rink (a couple met during Learn To Skate classes and dated for years on and off the ice and finally got married in an ice-rink ceremony a few years ago!) I’ve read about other rink romances. It can happen.

I was gonna say being in AZ, there out on the golf course.

Have you tried the Ave Maria dating site? It’s designed for practicing Catholics who are seeking sacramental marriages, so it might be a good start… (of course, as with any Internet site, buyer beware).

If you volunteer, think about more than who is there, but who is not there. Older men and women? They have sons 😃

Men are working during the day, so, they will not do lots of volunteering during that time. Think evenenings and weekends - do you like sports? Volunteer to asst coach a sports team.

How about taking golf lessons?

Guys like to eat (cooking class?) guys get hurt (hospital volunteer?)

Computer class, auto repair workshop…

Oh I could have so much fun with this topic.

Arrrgg!! Must… resist…

***I agree with all of this with the caveat azgirl, that you find something you enjoy doing, as Cat and kage say. I think to do something only with the motive to ‘find a man,’ will leave you feeling very anxious, anticipatory, and vulnerable…and also, disappointed if you did something with that sole intent, and then the ‘right’ guy didn’t appear. Just my two cents.

I also like the ave singles idea, because then, you will at least be meeting Catholic men, as opposed to random men at another setting that you hope are Catholic. When I was single, meeting a Catholic man was something very important to me. I dated men of varying religions throughout college, but I knew in my heart, I would only marry a Catholic…that’s just me, and I’m sure that is of importance to you, ave singles would be a great start, I think. In the end, I have always believed that God will lead us…arrange and rearrange the people and circumstances in our lives…to that ‘right’ person. I might be naive in thinking that, but it’s just always been my belief with love and marriage.

Good luck to you! Hope you find something you love to do, and it leads you to someone special. 👋***

Where do the men go?

Where do the women go?

I have heard these questions so many times. As if the locations of men and women are mysteries.

Men and women go to church. They belong to clubs and political organizations. They live in neigborhoods. They go to work and school. They enjoy sports, camping, and festivals. In fact, men and women are just about everywhere.

The real question, unspoken here, is “Why can’t I meet someone?”

That, I think, is less about where the men or the women are, and more about our attitudes and outlook.

If we are confident, positive, and open, it is much easier to meet new people. The answer to the question is within us, and the way we approach the world.

Yeah, the thought occurred to me that you might want to try the Catholic Singles website that Catholic Answers here seems to promote fairly often.

I’m in a similar situation, – although not at all, being twenty-one, male, and a year away from a Bachelor’s degree in Physics. There are no available women in our department, the girls at the Catholic Student Center seem “just friends” -type … grrr … hrm.

Okay, I cannot resist any longer.

Perhaps you can take up some new hobbies like woodworking, car repair, race car driving?

Maybe you could start a beer can collection or make a quilt for a king-sized bed out of the felt Crown Royal bags you saved from each bottle of Crown Royal you bought, like my brother did.

How about target shooting? Perhaps you could get a concealed handgun license and start carrying a pistol. Consider getting a rifle and go deer hunting. Think about how cool it would be to skin, gut and clean Bambi.

How about getting a class three weapons permit and start collecting and shooting fully automatic military-style weapons? Women hanging out in gun shops and gun shows buying machine guns certainly get a lot of attention. 😛 When you hang out at a shooting ranges, not only do you get attention, you get respect. But that is mostly because you are armed.

Buy a telescope and join a local astronomy club. Imagine standing around in the dark surrounded by 20 or 30 geeks.

And then there is professional baseball and football, but, for goodness sake, not soccer! 👍

Does you church have a Knights of Columbus? If so they may have some social activities you can go to and get involved with. In a small community word gets around on who is available and who isn’t. Being out and about gives people who want to meet you a chance to.

Ave Maria Singles 👍👍👍

Met DH on there over 3 years ago…and we’ll be celebrating our second anniversary and the birth of our first child next month! 😃

…[M]y opportunities to meet single men are limited…
Only limited in your mind, young Jedi. Everywhere opportunities are, if open to them your mind is.

(Sorry, was channeling Yoda there for a sec.)

Do you have a weblog? Some of the online communities are pretty good for this sort of thing, and you’ve got a head start because you’re literate. I used to have a weblog on Xanga, and had a lot of fun posting photos, essays, that sort of thing. Met some really nice people, too.

What sort of hobbies do you have? I’ll bet there’s a forum like this for that topic.

Besides, you can meet people anywhere. I once went to buy carpet and ended up dating the saleswoman (she asked me out, amazingly enough…but didn’t give me a discount on the carpet, alas).

I think the point is, don’t go out prowling with cynical opportunism…just be your normal, natural self, but keep your eyes open. I guarantee you, right now within just a few miles of where you’re sitting, there are several eligible men wondering why they can’t meet a nice woman just like you.

Good luck…

Met my husband of 15 years on public motorcycle outing through the foothills. Of course, I loved to ride. That’s the one piece of advice I can offer. Please, don’t suddenly take up golf to meet a man. (Unless you’ve been dying to take up golf for years, of course).

If you meet the “man of your dreams” while doing something you’re not really interested in, you can’t complain later if you find yourself a “golf widow” or “sports widow” or whatever.
