Boy gals, your tough on guys with ponytails. I’d hate to hear what you got to say about men with the old mustache! or long sideburns!:imsorry::bighanky: lol
How about a beard? Go to the local Byzantine Catholic church and you should be able to find an attractive man with a beard. 😃

(Of course, he may be busy celebrating the liturgy, so ladies, don’t get your hopes up too much. ;))

Why not? The challenge would be keeping it open/active. If it were open to the public, how are you going to handle anti-Catholic buzzkills without being accused of discrimination?

So make it a private club. Private clubs can get away with anything (including illegal stuff) but how would you attract members? What are the terms of membership? Ages? Dues?

You could also keep the Catholic thing subtle but I’m not sure that is in line with your goals.

I do like the idea so I can picture this place with a awesome mosaic of Our Lady of Guadelupe on the wall (like at the National Shrine), votive candles on the tables (very Catholic but also very hygge, books in nooks all over, a bulliten board with schedules of area Masses and Catholic events or events that Catholics would support (like blood drives, food drives) maybe even a collection area for canned goods for the food shelf, wool blend socks for the homeless, etc. Have you heard of pending coffee? Maybe that’s a tradition this shop could have…:hmmm:

Can ya tell I’ve dreamt of a owning a coffee shop with a little bookshop inside?
This is a retirement dream for my wife and I as well. When the kids are all grown. We have looked into it extensively. In one of the places we used to live there was an old church for sale downtown, someone bought it and made it into a christian bookstore/coffee shop. They made the necessary renovations (you don’t want to be making coffee on the altar) but the church had a nice feel to it. Stained glass and all. They made the mistake that has killed more coffee shops than anything and had live music all the time. (I am all for supporting local christian artists, but I think the form of a CD is nice.) We left the shop several times just because of the music. When you are limiting the public (by having a Catholic or Christian themed shop) you cannot afford to limit them further by having music artists that some may like and some may not. Music is one thing that people divide on and feel strongly about. (see music threads) Plus the scheduling of poor, usually young, musicians is a nightmare. Though I think selling christian art might be a good idea… Speakers or bible studies are also a possibility.
Location is of course key. An urban area or near a college is prime.
Ultimately the place closed down after about two years. It is scary because they had a lot of things right, but just a few things wrong.
Of all my wife’s wacky ideas this one has the most promise.

I’ve always thought a coffee shop loaded with good Catholic books and occasional Christian musician would be cool. I’m not sure if Catholics would like that idea.
I would definitely go to something like that. It’s a good idea! I wish they had something like that where I live 🙂

I gave up I’m well resigned to singledom. I think for some of us it’s the smarter move. If it’s not not in the cards it’s just not. You move on and let it go. That doesn’t mean you still don’t wish you had some of the things a good relationship would bring you just accept that maybe that’s not GODs will for you.

There are lot of good people out there it’s ashame though that it should be so hard for us all to find each other. If you’re still looking I’d recommend joining groups and doing activities your love. You may not find the one but at least you’ll have the experience of getting out and enjoying life. Just don’t sit back and think life will come to you because in most cases it won’t you have to get out and find it. If there’s not a group in your area start one. If you don’t have the time make it. There no guarantees in life but you can be proactive. Best of luck.

This thread on singles trying to find each other reminds me of several needles trying to find each other in a haystack.

Finding a spouse is like getting a job. Who you know is what is important. Networking is also important. From there, the more people in your social circle that share your values, the better the odds.

Well that confirms that I’m screwed 🙂

…It can’t be that bad…could it?
Yes it can. I lived in Southern California. I knew two dishonest people who tried to sue police departments, their parents, and teachers. I don’t talk to them from concern if they’d sue me.
I heard or read about law suits often. Not by choice. It was News on TV and in magazines.
Businesses pay into protection against law suits every so often. Those costs are very high in California.
A Catholic Coffee shop sounds great. Though anyone could have a problem just knowing it existed even if they lived two states away.
I do have some advise that might work. If you built the coffee shop on church grounds and made it more like a part of the church it can’t be a matter of discrimination!
