Where do you sit at church?

I’ve got the best seat in the house, um, church; in the choir loft, where I’m privileged to lead the congregation on the keyboard!

I’m curious why people sit where they sit in church and why.

I would enjoy hearing where you sit and why. 😉

I sit five to ten rows from the front and to the right of the center isle. I can only guess that I sit on the right because I’m right handed and, as a recent graduate of RCIA, we sat to the right of the main isle. I sit so close to the front because I am an EMHC almost every Sunday and don’t want to have to run the length of the church at communion time.

I checked ‘crying room or other’ bc there was no ‘choir loft’ response!

I sit in the rear center. In the rear because I have little ones who can sometimes be too wiggly and in the center because I still get a good view and get to receive communion from the priest. Also, I am really a creature of habit. I have my spot and I sit there every time, even if I am by myself.

It’s a bit odd seeing a corpus suspended in air without a cross behind it :hmmm:
Not to hijack - but - where is the cross? I’ve seen a cross without the corpus, but never a floating corpus with no cross
You Can’t really see it clearly in the pic, but it’s on the wall behind the corpus.

From far it’s seen as Christ is crucified, but when as you go nearer, you’ll see that Christ is smiling, sign of resurrection.

Hopefully, I won’t be “suspended” for answering this.

At Sunday Mass, I usually sit three or four rows from the front, either on the left or on the right. Lately, I’ve been on the right more often, although I started off on the left, because that’s where we sat when I was in RCIA.

At St Stephens Cathedral in Brisbane the Corpus Christi is suspended on half a cross which is just as unsettling.

The pictured church looks odd to me…

Second row, left pew, near the centre.

I don’t like sitting behind others - I’m too easily distracted.

Left rear…behind choir. Near exit so I can :tsktsk: at the people sneeking out early after the Eucharist! 😃

I sit towards the front and to the right. There are 6 entrances into the church and the one I go in is closest to my house. (I live across the street.)

It’s weird because I feel out of sorts when I don’t sit in that area … like I’m out of my neighborhood or something. lol

At my home parish: 3rd row, left of center aisle. This is the side where the priest distributes Communion. It also has a good view of the confessional and the line leading to it, in case I want to get in the line. OR in the sanctuary near the cantor’s stand.

At the Cathedral on Sundays: Right side, center aisle, 2nd or 3rd row behind the break after the very front section. This is the side where the priest distributes Communion. It has a view of the tabernacle in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

At the Cathedral on weekdays in the Lady Chapel or Blessed Sacrament Chapel: Third row, right side. I just seem to have settled here - it’s nice to be close to the front. If I arrive late, however, all bets are off - I could be all the way in the back, standing if Mass is in the Lady Chapel, or in the nave if it’s in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

I sit in the back the second to the last row because that is where the Holy Women’s Society parked me. We had a pew drive in which each family offered a thousand dollars to repair and refinish church and pew and then the family name was put on the the pew with a plaque. some people shared the cost with other families so they share a pew. My family is rather large so we paid for the whole thing. Father let the women’s society decide where to place the pews. We got the back. For some reason though the head of the women’s society who is also the mayor of the town got her pew first in front.😃 😃 😃

I usually sit on the left, but I don’t really know why the left in particular. I sit in the back three or four rows in case of baby meltdown.

It looks like it is in advanced decay.
If I were a small child I would be scared out of my wits.
What "artistic " person thought this up.

Even the flowers seem out of place.

Christ was hung on a cross. This looks like he was strung up by fishing line around the neck until dead.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with this pic, the church I used to attend to when I was little which I am back to now I am old (57) had a very small cross on a big wall now we have a large cross and corpse on the big wall and I love it because it is overwhellming and it reminds me constantly of what Jesus did, I’m sure if youwere at the church you woold be able to see the cross in the back ground. I was at many churches with no crucifix or cross at all and I missed that very much. I used to sit all over the church because of all the memories and I wanted to get different views then my father had me sit in the back for awhile then I got used to sitting in the front with my cousin, then the father always gave communion on the right and the other server gave on the left so it depended who you want to receive from so sometimes I would see people cross over from one side to the other and back again to just to receive from the father. People can be different depending on what was available for seating. Now I sit in the choir loft because father says I have a good voice and I can see everyone so wow this is COOL! Desert, return 👍

Well, it wasn’t so nice also when Christ was crucified, though I do hope it was less cruel than Passion of Christ. 🙂

Btw, in the evening with all lights on, we can see the light through the holes to show the risen Christ.

As for the flower, the pic was taken before a wedding.

It is very bad to be critizing the cross I hoope you will go to confession right away on this one. Every thing is scary about the Passion that is why it was called crucfying. I had to watch it 2 times before I could even open my eyes! Through most anyways and only then did I see the real meaning and it can’t be more so than when people put real nails etc. in them which I don’t agreee with. The children can understand more than you think and some day if the leave the catholic church pray they dion’t they will remember how big our GOD REALLY IS!!! Desert 😃 🙂 👍

Hmmm, with 26% choosing the front, right option, there must be a reason for this…

Why does your Church have Spiderman hovering over the Altar??
Why are you calling Jesus spiderman ?:tsktsk:
Matt: 16;23

I think it is beautifull and I’m sure you all put a lot of time and thought into this cross love in Christ. Desert 🙂
