What is thanksgiving prayer after mass? Is it just praying more prayers or is it an official prayer?
It’s basically thanking God for the opportunity to do/receive, etc whatever you just did. I use the prayers out of my prayer book. Our priest reprimanded us yesterday for not taking the time to make a proper thanksgiving after Mass.

OK, thanks for explaining. 👍 In May, I honored Mary by saying a Hail Mary in front of her statue after Mass. However, I didn’t know this could/should be a regular thing. I will make a more conscious effort to do a thanksgiving prayer to God after Mass.

Deo Gratias42-Wow, you had a moment. See, I would hardly ever have the opportunity to notice anyone in the confessional line since I usually confess to Opus Dei priest. Men and women go to separate centers. Maybe he noticed you doing your prayer as well. In my mind, I would like think that a single man doing his thanksgiving prayer is praying for his future wife.

SeekNFind-Thanksgiving prayer is when you stay 10-15 mins after Mass to give thanks to our Lord. As Deo Gratias42 explained, sometimes it helps if you have a prayer book. In mine, there’s the Anima Christi and the prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas. I also like to pray the litany to St. Joseph (you know for my future husband) =)

I’m asking because i’m in somewhat of a tough situation. I live in a rural area where there aren’t many people my age in general, and most people (women included) who are my age aren’t living the best lives and their aren’t really groups for men my age. So what’s a good place to meet Catholic women? The nearest large city is about an hour away, but haven’t’ found anything like a theology on tap or young persons catholic group, at least that’s active. I also don’t want to use online dating. I used match for a while and did meet some interesting people, but even if i used a Catholic site, i don’t think it would be good. So are their any suggestions?
Put yourself in different situations until you find a GROUP of people that are faithful. Go explore different masses. Ask around. Don’t look just for a girl, but for a community of people your age.

I’ve been thinking of letting some of the elderly people in the parish know that I’m interested in finding someone, tell them to keep their eye out for me and see if they have anyone who miht be interested. Even if you don’t speak to them, if you’ve seen them at Mass for a few years they tend to feel like they know you. 🙂

Put an ad in the bulletin! :extrahappy:

“Introduction to the New Testament” class at your local community college!!!

:D:D:thumbsup:👍

I only said this because I was lucky (blessed, actually) and met my fiance there.

Try a young adults group at a, or your, local parish, bible studies, adoration. Hang around your parish long enough and I’m sure you’ll find a good gal.

This will have to wait until i have a new parish. In my current parish in my little town my family’s not exactly well liked, and unfortunately i’m related to quite a few of the members. But i’ll be sure to do that wherever I go

Have you read the first part of my post :tsktsk: Sorry to be rude, but as I mentioned this isn’t really an option. My home parish is very small and is in a town of only 150 and most of the members are over 60, and even the larger parishes within 15 miles don’t really have young adult groups, and even the few who are my age don’t really practice and unfortunately would rather get drunk that go to a young adult church group. Even bible studies for the older people don’t last too long. My priest tried it in lent and only did it one year for some reason. I like your idea about the New Testament class:thumbsup:

Ask all of the old people in Church to bring their most pious granddaughter to mass or take a Catholic Bible study class. Actress Ali Landry found her future husband at her Catholic Bible Study class in LA.

I loved her story. After her disastrous marriage to Mario Lopez (who supposedly cheated oon her during the honeymoon ) she reverted and started going back to church, being chate, etc. It’s sweet she met her husband that way. 👍

Ok, I know this thread is five days old since the last response, but I had to throw in some thoughs 😉

I am a seventeen year old Catholic senior in higschool, and I can definatly understand your frustration. Not that I am looking for a young man to court (yet. 🙂 give me a couple years and I’ll probably be in the same boat), but I know it’s hard when you don’t have fellowship with fellow Catholic peers.
I have an amazing homeschool youthgroup, but I am currently looking for a good, local, Catholic friend who I can sit down with and call anytime about matters of faith and morals. I haven’t found one yet, but I pray! 👍 So I know how it is to look for someone seemingly impossible to find.

Now, on to your situation. Have you thought about contacting the priest of your parish, or if you think that’ll be a dead end, the priests of the parishes in the city you live 50 miles away from, and asking him if he knows of any young women who are considering marriage and motherhood? He probably knows these young women because they have discussed their hopes with him throug spiritual discernment, etc. He will know for sure, and be able to talk with the young woman - Holy Matchmaking! 😛 I know a young lady who called the priest of the Latin Rite in her community and was able to determine whethere there would be any young men who would be open to pursuing her in a relationship.

Where you actually find good catholic women? You go out into the world and find them and bring them back to church. 😃

I don’t agree with this stance - so called “missionary” dating can hurt so much more than it can help. It can pull you away from your faith, and, if you end up getting married, it can make it very hard to raise young Catholic children. I know this from experience in my extended family.

Best to wait for the right Catholic girl - instead of creating one yourself. 🙂

Lol, I actually live at a student’s residence by Opus Dei for guys (in Europe, not many Catholics around) and we were complaining to each other about the lack of possibilities to get to know catholic girls because everything is seperated :p. Though I’m sure it will work out fine.

It’s not really missionary dating, more like recovery work. 😃

Eh, me and my priest aren’t really the best of buds, and to be honest, most of his nieces and people he knows are married. Also, I don’t feel comfortable getting set up. I’ve never really been set up with anyone, probably because i’m too unique or my friends suggestions aren’t that great (one girl A friend of mine suggested someone who was catholic, but she never really went to mass and had a lot of issues. Like serious issues that need professional help. Neither of us knew until later though so I’m glad i didn’t ask her out). Anyway I do understand where you are coming from, and I hope when you are older you find someone. You seem really nice.

Sorry, I really feel strongly against this. How can a young man be a spiritual leader in a relationship when the young woman has no wish to be spiritually led?

It is essentially placing your relationship with God on the back burner and making this young woman’s faith your first priority, which is wrong on many levels. Then you run the risk of the possible conversion to Catholicsm having the reason soley because of you - not because her love of God.

Being a fallen-away Catholic’s friend and a witness to them, this is good. But it should not include a romantic relationship until you could be equally yoked in Catholic Marriage 👍

God bless you all!

Thanks 🙂 I really appreciate your compliments.

Also be comforted in the fact that God does have a plan for your life - one that He has had in mind before you were even born. Draw closer to him - and enjoy this season of singleness, perhaps He wants you to strengten your relationship with Him right now. His plan will be revealed in time as you know, love, and serve HIM.

Keep in mind that His ways are far above our ways, and if we follow His will in our lives, even if it doesn’t make sense now, He is going to be able to take our lives and use them so much better than we could have ever imagined!!

You are in my prayers - please keep me in yours!

God bless you,

Chloe M.

I do agree with it, but sometimes you do fall for the woman who left, but when you arive on the scene, and you show the faith around her, you plant a seed in her to see something that she isn’t getting from the world, and well…

pewpew-you should talk to the priests in your residence. I think they can arrange it-for you to meet a nice girl at the women’s center. Don’t be like me. You’re still young and have a chance at meeting someone. True story: OD priest arranged for my supernumerary friend to meet this supernumerary from men’s center (6 years ago) and although they didn’t end up together, they’re still friends. She (my friend) ended up meeting her husband through Catholic online dating. On a separate note, I haven’t tried the online dating thing but if you’re brave enough, maybe it’ll work for you. But you never know, maybe there’s someone in the women’s center wondering how she can meet you! lol.
