Does anyone here happen to know where to buy a snazzy alb off the rack just like the one ABp. Tim Dolan is wearing in the following photos? It might well be a custom piece from a company like Gammarelli or Euro Clero but if someone happens to know of a off the rack source I would sure appreciate knowing. Thanks.

I don’t know right off hand, but my priest has one JUST LIKE IT, so when I see him this weekend I’ll ask him, and if you haven’t found one like it already, I’ll let you know. I know Fr. gets alot of his vestments and such from religious orders that makes them, so perhaps check there first??? Sorry couldn’t be any more help right now.

that is so odd. like datingtrappists, i know a priest who has that exact same one! Or at least extremely similar. I’ve also seen the matching “covering” they use during Benediction (sorry, I forgot what you call it…).

speaking of names for vestments… i’m sorry, but did you mean the alb or the chasible? because i think i’m actually referring to the chasible…

Hello;

The white alb…

You must be talking about the chasuble. The “covering” would most likely be the cope.

Thank you, I appreciate it. It’s a very nice alb. Not too plain and not too frilly. Doe’s your priest have RED inserts on the sleeves or black ones? I find that rather interesting.

Archbishop Dolan has a white dress shirt on with french cuffs, what appears to be the purple/wine cassock of a bishop and the cool alb with red arm inserts. He really vests in a nice manner.

The covering used during Benediction is actually the humeral veil. The cope is used most of the times during Latin Mass (or more specifically, before) during the Asperges Me, aka, sprinkling rite. The priest then goes off to the side to change from the cope to the chausable after the prayers at the foot of the altar and before the Introit.

He has the black inserts for the sleeves. I think that the red inserts are for Bishops only, and maybe perhaps Monsignors, since the Pastor at the church where EF Mass is prayed, when he sits in choir, wears a red cassock and his biretta has a red tassle instead of the black one Fr. wears. Fr. also wears the french cuffs and cuff links with his cassock. I can say than hands down he is the best dressed Roman Catholic priest in this whole diocese. However, I must say I also am a big fan of Ukrainian Greek vestments, too! There is only one Ukrainian Greek Catholic priest in this, and the bordering, diocese.

Fr also has another alb that is very similar, except the lace is much more delicate. He also has quite a collection of surplices, including one from Rome that is like the ones worn in Papal Masses. Some people collect stamps, sheet music, etc… I guess Fr. collects vestments. 😃

Either a cope or a humeral veil appropriate for benediction.

Very interesting! Monsignors and bishops wear a wine/purple color. Cardinals (and kids) wear red. Thank you for asking your priest about his alb.

Nice 🙂

Oh! I had hoped you would be back with the information. In due time…

I don’t know where you can buy them off the rack, but our pastor was delighted to find a box of vestments and albs in our parish archives including a couple of beatiful albs with liturgical lace designs. He happens to like the old style vestments and has his own set of nice vestments and and a couple of albs with black inserts in the sleeves and bottom.

If you are thinking about buying one for a priest friend, I would recommend talking to him first. Priests have their own taste in vestments and albs. Better to find out exactly what he likes than to spend a lot of money on something that may be worn once then sit in the drawer for years.

Any of the vestments in the picture can be purchased from most church supply merchants. The alb and the chasuble are both very basic designs.

That alb is by no means “a very basic design.” I’ve looked at about a dozen church supply stores with no success. If you happen to know of even a single source I would appreciate hearing about it.

Robert Moore carries something similar. Maybe if you contact them, they can help you.

Edit to add

This one looks even closer to the OP,

Did you check Robert Moore Church Supply? I thought there was one just like the one you pictured.

Ask Mary to make you an alb. She made clothing for Jesus, she will do the same for His brother! 🙂

I’m sorry, but I don’t have further information… I wasn’t able to get Fr. still enough to ask him this weekend (it was busy), and when I saw him earlier, this throbbing in my knee made it impossible to remember to ask… 😦 Better luck next time I see him.

I am not sure why I received an incredulous response, but here are three:

aquinasandmore.com/index.cfm/FuseAction/store.ItemDetails/SKU/58891/

susanmaria.com/catalog/item/662528/2508264.htm

Just google “lace alb.”

Those just aren’t the same.

The pricetags are probably in the right ballpark, though, if not a little low…that is, $350-$400 USD. That explains why we don’t see more of them.

Even if you find the lace sold separately on the internet, it is very expensive. There are some beautiful examples out there, though, for those who know how to work with lace.

If you have an alabaster jar to break, this is a nice place to do it.

Wow, I wondered the exact same thing. Amazed that Google found this thread. Sadly not a single one of the responses rendered an alb that was even close to the one Archbishop Dolan was wearing.

I finally found it (or something very close) though. They are available from the House of Hanson. It’s the “407alb” on thehouseofhansen.com/albs.shtml
