Where does the true Roman Catholic teaching stand on labyrinths and taize prayer?

I’ve tried reading the various threads concerning these topics here and am getting conflicting info. They seem very new agey to me but some claim that they are inline with ancient catholism. One website link has videos of Pope John Paul II attending a Taize service. Yet they openly are an eclectic group from many faith backgrounds. Not just christian. Where does the true Roman Catholic teaching stand on these? They are popping up in my diocese in Northeastern Ohio.
