Where in the Bible did Man eat meat for the first time?

Killing an animal as a sacrifice to God would not be morally acceptable today for Christians. It would be the unnecessary killing of God’s creature. This is no longer an appropriate sacrifice.

For Jesus dies in a supreme Sacrifice. That is clear

Cain couldn’t eat anything that grew so he had to eat meat. I think Cain was the first to eat meat.

Is this the proper interpretation of the verse? Interesting idea. I thought it meant since he didn’t want to be his brother’s keeper, he will have to be “kept” (fed) by others, and lost his independance, as clearly his land and the fruits which it bears.

It is interesting. I had never noticed that verse. Thanks for pointing it out.

What is clear is that God gives explicit permission to eat meat in Genesis 9. Maybe there is a difference between eating meat and having permission to eat it? I wonder what the Talmud has to say about this.

Thinking on this, man would have ate meat obviously long before Genesis was written, so I don’t think we could get a answer from the Bible on when man ate meat for the first time. Only a reference to when God said animals could be for food.

Yep, Genesis 9:2-3.

The one who is eaten gets it’s identity and purpose from the one who eats. This is God’s reestablishment of order in a very disordered world.

Flesh was allowed. Blood was not because “the life is in the blood.” Man was not to drink the blood of animals so as not to live the life of an animal. The consumption of blood was reserved until Christ came. Man was to drink the blood of Christ so as to live the life of Christ because “The life is in the blood.”

That’s about it, 5000 years of theology in a nutshell.
