Throughout the Bible there are many passages concerning heaven. There are instances when people “look to the heavens” to pray, times when people are supposedly closer to God the higher they physically are above the Earths surface (Mt. Sinai, The Tower of Babel), and of course when Jesus and Mary Ascend into heaven.

After reviewing these instances, an idea hit me that heaven is an actual physical place. A place that is in our universe, to be more exact. If this weren’t true, why wouldn’t Jesus and Mary just vanish into heaven, why would people look up to pray?

Every religion, aside from some eastern philosophies, believes heaven is “upward”.

So I ask you, where is heaven?

That’s a very hard question. I don’t think anyone knows where it is, just that it exists. Maybe it is upward as jesus did say that he saw “satan fall” from paradise.

Maybe it’s neither up or down but is explained to us this way as as to further emphasise that God is high and mighty?

It’s an interesting question, hopefully someone can give a solid concrete answer.

Where Is Heaven ? Hmmm.

The only reference Jesus Himself used to make His apostles and followers understand in their (“OUR”) limited human intellect was when Jesus was speaking in ("John
Chapter 14
1 2 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?”)

With Saint Paul we read: 1 Corinthians
Chapter 2
9 It is written: “Eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him,”

With all assurance I think it’s obvious to say that Heaven is a supernatural place set aside by God Himself for spiritual souls that love God beyond all measure.

Humans have this silly habit of putting a box around God’s creation and try to decipher it into human understanding whether it be the materialistic nature of earth, solar systems, stars, galaxies, or unseen universes beyond human comprehension. God’s domain is everywhere, seen and unseen. If we had to use human words to describe heaven in all it’s wonder and awe. Not all the libraries or books in the worlds history could contain the immense unfathomable beauty in trying to describe Heaven.

First, “heavens,” in the plural is often used biblically to describe the sky or the cosmos, not the actual realm where God has His Throne.

Second, Jesus and Mary are the only bodies which are in Heaven, and the ascension was more of an exaltation rather than the body actually moving in any specific direction for any length of time. And, of course, there are complex mysteries involved in both instances which mere science and rationalism cannot even begin to hope to explain.

Third, all other comparative descriptions of Heaven found in the Bible are likely man’s best attempt at expressing the inexpressible.

It is far more likely that Heaven is beyond time and space, thus signifying that it is not, in fact, a physical place in the sense of being subject to the laws of nature. Both Heaven and Hell are inextricably linked to Eternity, not that they exist within Eternity like some dot upon a timeline, but that they are Eternal. The very definition of Eternity, suggesting absolutely no beginning and no end, seems to preclude that either place is, in essence, physical.

What we know from both public and private revelation is that after our disembodied, immortal souls pass through purification, we are spend our eternity gazing upon the beautiful Face of God, praising and worshipping him. Both are souls and God, being spirit, do not require physical localities in the sky.

Physical or not, what can be said about Heaven is that it sure beats the heck outta Dubai!

I always thought that heaven was just beyond the borders of the universe. Many people would say that I am nuts but I think that both heaven and hell border the universe we live in because God new that one day we would surpass the limits of our planet so he had to make sure that no mortal could reach either place. Only in death can we cross the vast void that is space to reach the gates of heaven; think about it what could be beyond the universe?

The physical universe didn’t exist until God created it.

This by no means implies that heaven is less “real”, however. Not all realities are physical.

I wouldn’t worry about the location of heaven. They’ve got a good man in charge there, I hear.
Second, Jesus and Mary are the only bodies which are in Heaven,<<
Not true.

Elijah and Enoch were translated while still in the body.

Though unlike Our Lord and Our Lady, they have not yet suffered physical death, though they will during the ascendancy of Antichrist.

EXACTLY; Not All Realities In Gods Creation Are Physical

And I will go further to say that the Majority of God’s creation falls outside the spectrum of human intellect.
You make some good points, but I’ll throw another possibility out there. I was watching a special on the String Theory, or M theory. Which basically states that everything is made up of tiny strings, even protons, neutrons, and electrons. In order for this theory to be true, though, there has to be multiple dimensions, aka alternate realities.

Our realm of reality, supposedly, is like a thin piece of paper floating vertically, and there are other realities floating next to it. Also, this theory suggests that according to string theory, that these realities would have completely different properties then ours. It went on to describe how these strings could pass through space and time, and that gravity particles pass through these multiple realities all the time. In other words, they are not bound by our same reality. But if we were to be able to harness this ability, we would be able to travel faster then the speed of light, pass through mass, defy gravity, etc

As I listened to this it struck me that angels do pretty much all of that. I know angels are spiritual beings and are by know means the same as us, but I thought that this theory pretty much described the heavenly creatures.

Could heaven be an alternate reality, filled with creatures and mass and their own solar system etc?

Cosmic Strings and the M Theory are fascinating subjects in of themselves and are nonetheless open to conjecture because they are after all theories which rationalize how we human beings understand (“Time, Space, and Matter”) in our present "Three Dimensional plane of existence. I would think that it would be arrogant on our part to limit God’s ineffable creation to just multi-billions of planets, stars, solar systems and galaxies and the mind boggling distances between such matter in space as we humans comprehend it.

Can you imagine an infinite number of dimensional universes with indescribable colors, and shapes the defies describing?

How Great Is Our God.
For my puny intellect I’ll stick to more mundane things and of course Faith in God

I really like the idea of ‘String Theory’, I have studied a lot about it, and have many books on the subject. Although the idea is still in its infancy, it is interesting to think that there are so many parallels to our own world out there. Is the theory correct ? I have no clue, but isn’t it nice to know that our loving God has given us so much bra(name removed by moderator)ower to even suggest such a thing. If it turns out to be true, this ‘String Theory’, I will be one of the first to say HOORAY, God has given us another avenue to explore, and just think, it was literally right under our noses the whole time !

I’ve come to the same conclusion some time back. This also can explain our soul, can it be that our soul is nothing more than an alternate self that is linked to us. Gods control of space and time, how he can see the future and how one day can be like a thousand years.

Been watching Star Trek V ?

If this weren’t true,

…and it’s not.

why wouldn’t Jesus and Mary just vanish into heaven, why would people look up to pray?

Every religion, aside from some eastern philosophies, believes heaven is “upward”.

It’s not localised. We might as well ask “where” is the love between friends: it can be real, & have no position. Love, like Heaven, is not extended in place; it’s not a body - if it were, we could measure it and weigh it. And take its temperature. That sort of treatment can’t be applied to what is spirit; but spirit is a reality even so.

Gods are often “above”, because the direction reflects their superiority to man; hell is “below” for a similar reason. Such language is symbolic; not direct description - Jesus is not seated on the roight side of a very ancient Deity, still less is Jesus seated on the right palm & fingers of this ancient Deity - yet Jesus is “on” the Father’s “right hand”. That means the Glorified Christ is in the very “highest” honour; it’s not a statement about His spatial location.

Your position sounds like what is known as Anthropomorphism - which is doctrinally dodgy (FWIW). Mormonism, with its material “God” , is Anthropomorphite.

IMHO, God is Heaven & Heaven is “in” God.

Angels are sheerly spirit - therefore they are not material in any way. To be one, is not to be the the other.

If Heaven is merely a prettier version of the universe as discoverable by us, it’s the “heaven” of Spiritualism  Is God made of electrons 🙂 ?

A state of being united to God. A state not bound by any law of physics, quantum or otherwise.

I’m sorry brother but the Church states that Religion and Science complement each other, so their is no mumbo jumbo in our religion everything can be explain at a time and will be measured. God set the laws of physics here in our universe and he will abide by them because he made the laws if god desired to break them, God will or would make allowance for that fact.

You seem to be implying that divine life is bound by the laws that bind matter.
That the Creator is bound by His creation. That matter gives God meaning rather than visa versa.
