I would like some Greek translations please, because a guy I’m arguing with says the Greek actually never says ‘queen’

I used Psalms, infact the KJV also renders the word as Queen, so does the DRB and so does the vulgate, but he implies the Greek doesn’t.

Now I can’t read Greek, can someone confirm this for me? Or point me to something that gives a translation in parallel with the greek?

Please? Or other scripture verses that are clear, any help would be good !! 🙂

Harmony, I also don’t know Greek, but could you go another way? The Bible does state that Jesus is King of heaven and earth – that he was sent to renew the kingdom in the tradition of David. If Jesus is a Davidic king, then Mary has to be recognized as queen.

Remember that Solomon had so many wives and concubines that none of them could sit as queen, so began the tradition of the “Queen Mother.” The mother of the king sat on a throne and was both adviser to the king and petitioner for the people.

^ That is a good argument except he could cite the church as being the queen, which is what this source does, but it kind of proves them wrong at the same time:

Psalm 45:9, a messianic psalm of enormous significance, and one that is almost universally mistranslated because of doctrinal bias. Before I read it to you, let me remind you that this is a prophetic psalm that is talking about King David and his family, about Christ and His family, and about Christ and His Bride, the Church. This is what it reads:
Code:
"King's daughters were among thy honourable wives [KJV, "women"]; upon thy right hand did stand the queen [shegal] in gold of Ophir" (Ps.45:9).
Now the normal word for a “queen” in Hebrew is malkah. Shegal differs from malkah inasmuch as it means not only “queen” but “wife” as well - shegal is a “queen-wife” as opposed to just a “wife”.

How, then, does this tie up with the primary word of “snow” or “purity”? Simply, the purest wife is the queen-wife. The wife who occupies the highest honour is the one that is the purest. And as the Wife is the Church or Assembly, the purest or truest Church of Assembly is that which is the purest. The truthfulness of any work is therefore proportional to its spiritual purity. As far as Christ is concerned, His “queen” are the saints who have been purified completely in His blood. And that is very much the theme of the Book of Revelation, and indeed of the whole Johannine message.

It is rather obvious to me that they got the translation correct but the interpretation wrong. Infact the purest wife of cohabitation with Jesus would have been Mary, she was the PUREST, saints are pure but not completely pure as they are still sinners.

The problem is putting such a long message into youtube

Well I’m off to sleep. For those who have youtube accounts and want to respond to his questions, please do so:

It’s 1:30 a.m here and I need sleep, but I will be back to respond to him tomorrow !

Please be civilized !!

So far he is looking for proofs of:

What bible verse calles Mary (a) queen of heaven, (b) a queen, (c) say that she is a co-redemptrix (d) say that she was sinless, (e) immaculately conceived?

Becareful with this, I don’t think there is explicit proof that call Mary queen of heaven for e.g. However it’s obvious by logic and deduction and drawing parallels that it exists.

I see sola scriptura written all over this.

Which verse?

For “Queen,” the passage I think of is the woman in Revelation 12 with the “crown” (12:1) who gave “birth” to a “male child” who would “rule” the world (12:5). I think your associate fails to recognize the significance of a woman wearing a crown as Queen. He may argue that the “woman” is the Church, which it is, but it puts a strain on the passage to deny that it is also Mary.

In the Hebrew of kingdom, the mother of the King is the queen! Although we know Jesus to be the King of Heaven, the bible doesn’t say He is. However, since we know this to be true, we know who His mother is and her position.

Revelation 12

I don’t think it mentions the word queen but it mentions Mary’s coronation with the starts of Heaven (though it doesn’t say Mary but the woman who gave birth to the one who will rule over the nations with an iron rod, which is the Messiah i.e. Jesus)

I just want to be careful. are you sure it doesn’t say Jesus is the king of heaven ANYWHERE in the Bible?

Jesus is explicately given the title king of kings and Lord or Lords throughout the entirety of the bible.

Mary as being Queen of heaven…Good luck with this…The revelation argument falls short because the woman is explained in Revelation. It is the church. or also know is Israel during John Patmos times. it is in the commentary and it states it clearly there.

Mary is assumed and thus the church deems it worthy of honor because she is Christs mother. Christ Honored Mary and so must also be honored in heaven as well. If any thing Mary can be seen as the personified version of what the church looks like. But this is clearly opinionated and speculative and not biblically sound.

Rev 12:1 RSV And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars;
Rev 12:2 RSV she was with child and she cried out in her pangs of birth, in anguish for delivery.

Right here we clearly see that Mary is the Queen of Heaven. 👍

I don’t get the second bit…Why is Mary giving birth all of a sudden?

Plus this is revelations, some protestant is going to say, 'where does it say ‘mary’

But some guy called victus expanded on this in another thread, so I can still use it, but it has to be with other parts in the Bible too.

Not an easy topic. I wish the Church gave us some resources with this along with the formal declaration in 1950. However that would probably be like 5000 pages long.

How far can that argument go when the text says the woman who gives birth to the male child who rules all nations…

There is a wonderful book by Edward Sri, “Hail, Holy Queen” which gives a wonderful scholarly rendering of Our Lady’s role as Queen of Heaven. It’s a good read, in paperback, and not expensive at all.

Here’s some information I used to prepare a talk at our church:
There are other places in the Old Testament that show the queen mother in ancient Israel had real power. Jeremiah is speaking for the Lord in chapter 13:18-20, “Say to the king and to the queen mother: come down from your throne; From your heads fall your magnificent crowns.*** ***The cities of the Negeb are besieged, with no one to relieve them; All Judah is banished in universal exile. Lift up your eyes and see men coming from the north. Where is the flock entrusted to you, the sheep that were your glory?”
Also in 2nd Kings, the King of Babylon is fixing to route Jerusalem. “Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, himself arrived at the city while his servants were besieging it. Then Jehoiachin, king of Judah, together with his mother, his ministers, officers, and functionaries, surrendered to the king of Babylon… (2nd Kings 24, 11-12).
We know from Scriptures that groups of people were most often listed in order of importance. That’s why Peter is always listed first among the Apostles. As you can see, the Queen Mother is listed only after the King.
