Speaking with a Baptist today regrading the appalling shooting of the abortion doctor I was asked that did Catholics believe certain sins were unforgivable (Sins against the Holy Spirit did not cross my mind at the moment). I said no that we believe that any and all of our sins can be forgiven. I stated the reason, besides how this will be spun by the abortionists and the secular press, is a tragedy is that if this doctor would have repented what a witness this could have been and this is why we pray for those who are lost. Then I mentioned that murdering someone is certainly a greater sin than say telling a lie. The Baptist I was speaking with stated that this was not the case that all sin is just as bad in God’s eyes, that when Jesus died on the cross he died for all sins (there were no diddering layers on the Cross) of all sinners and something to the effect of being saved by grace is the reason (or words to that effect).
My question is that since this a Scripture only Baptist what passages can I rely on and point to the Church’s teaching. Furthermore, she also mentioned differing levels of Hell which is the first time I have heard this put forth.
