Where is our trust in God?

Over the last two days, I have found a deep need in my own life to repent of my lack of trust in God-and I don’t think I’m alone.

Jesus tells us over and over “Be not afraid”. He is the God who conquered death, do we really think we can’t trust Him with our puny human problems?

How can ever hope to show the outside world that Jesus is what is missing in their lives if we go into a complete and utter panic when things in the world do not go our way?

My prayer for all of us as we attend Mass this weekend is that we receive the strength we need to show the world that our God is beyond this world, is in control of this world and has a plan for us all.

What if God is trying to lead us to trust Him more and we’re not listening because we’re too busy yelling at each other?

I agree. It’s hard for us, from our perspective, to know the work that God is doing. Trusting in God to me is the only way to go. However, since we’re human, we tend to get mired down in petty details that we then expend effort in trying to control. A useless endeavour and one I’ve gotten caught up in many times. Thank you for the reminder of the bigger picture.

I know what you mean. It’s an area I’ve been trying to grow in. Because He wants radical trust in Him based on who He is, not what he does. So, it can’t be based on “something bad happened so I won’t trust him” or “something good happened so I’l trust him.” We have to radically trust even unto death, like Christ. I think the best thing to do is just embrace it full force like the saints.

Personally because of a life of misfortune and constant adversity, if I’m being totally honest here, I don’t trust God one bit. I trust in his omnipotence but if his will for me is to be a Jeremiah, who lamented his fate and wished he hadn’t been born, or someone who has a crummy life because of the redemptive value of a tragic life, the problem is his will: if I feel deep down that what I want is to be with a woman and have kids, a great job with 6 figures salary, what if he calls me to be a religious, if all I want to be is around people, if I’m naturally outgoing and social, what if his will for me is to be a cloistered monk? We all know that if we handed God the reigns of our lives 100% for 100% of the time, we’d be terribly disappointed and disillusioned in more than aspect. What if you hate winter and only want to move to Nassau, but God wants you in an Inuit community living in an igloo and eating raw fish?The example of Jeremiah goes to show that you can bathe in God’s will, be perfectly where God wants you to be and be utterly miserable and suicidal.(retroactively)

Pope Benedict recently wrote that we need to take a little time to contemplate God every day. And speaking as a fellow sinner, we’re not doing much yelling. I never said a word to anyone entering the abortion clinic I was standing in front of. We prayed together.

We are to speak the truth with charity. Try not to let internet forums make you think there are a lot of yelling people out there in real life. And try to avoid the yelling on TV as well. Listen to Catholic Radio, I encourage you.

I don’t think the Church or other people go into a complete and utter panic. We are constantly reminded to pray and to fix our thoughts on God. As we speak the truth, we trust that God will change things because it is the truth, and not “our way.” And while we all have personal goals and desires, let God in on them

Seeker, you are correct! It is in the chaos created by the world that God is doing his best work. Especially when everything looks like it’s going to h*ll in a handbasket. God doesn’t always eke out the victory at the end of a close game. Often times He waits until the situation is over, dead and buried. This is the soil in which real trust is found.

There is evidence of God everywhere. Look at the headlines. In decades past, any mention of the Church was typically in regard to some non-controversial event (“Oh, look at what those Catholics are doing …”). But now, our bishops are in the headlines, as warriors fighting (without yelling!) a most serious battle, and they are being taken seriously! I am so proud to be a Catholic now, and we should be praying for the strength to lay down our lives with our beloved shepherds in defense of the Truth!

The glory is not in the winning. The glory belongs to God himself, and in our aligning our wills with His.

In Empress Theresa, 19 year old Theresa has just gone through a year of difficult situations.
Now, she suddenly has a new one…
.

  I made an accusing look up to Heaven again, much longer this time to show Him how mad I was. I let Him have it. 
  "What's the purpose of this latest trial? Does it have any point? Didn’t I already prove my courage last year? What more do you want from me?"

Hours later, she succeeds in resolving the crisis. She contemplates the situation and says, “I can do anything.”
A few minutes later………….

  The captain, co-pilot, and three stewardesses came over to meet us. The captain said, “They told me you landed the plane without using the flaps and reverse thrusters. Do you know how amazing that is?”
  “Not really. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
  “You made history. They’ll be talking about it for years.”
  I told Steve, “When I found out I had to land the plane without help I got angry with God. I asked Him what the heck the point of this was.”
  “What did He say?”
  “He said, ‘Look what you‘ve done. You can do anything. Don’t let people down.’”
