The gates of hell shall not prevail against her…

The Church is thriving because of God and Christ’s Vicar Pope Benedict XVI

Do not be discouraged by pictures of liturgical controversy from the past. The 60’s and 70’s are no more!

The Catholic Church is present everywhere and is truly universal. It has the sacraments of salvation and hope for those who are lost.

:)👍🙂

Despite some people, even a few priests, who are not doing what they should, the Church is strong. And despite the “chicken littles” of this world, the sky is NOT falling.

What evidence do we have that these pictures represent recent events?

i am at a brasilian website and these are newly testimonies of the people who been there and reported to the site. some of these even declare to cry for the Church over the horrible abuses from bishops and priests.

believe me i know. i talk to Catholics in brasil every week and it is horrifying what they believe. the charismatics couldnt careless about the Church, they are in different church.

my cousin’s wife is a charismatic and she advocates for homosexuals to be in the CC and she se nothing wrong with it. when i try to explain to her about the Doctrine of the Church she doesnt believe me. she tells me that the priest doesnt teach these things.
the precarious stage of the Church in Brasil is very precarious.

the theology of liberation is ruling the Church in brasil.

wisdomseeker**** I was apalled by the pictures. Talk about the majesty and the blasphemy. Glad you let us know they are recent images. Please send more as you come upon them. If I were you, I would send them directly to the Pope: benedettoxvi@vatican.va

At least a couple of those photos looked like attempts to consecrate loaves (or chunks of loaves) of bread? In such a case, the consecration would have been invalid (invalid matter).

I feel sorry for the laity who are being duped by these things, especially if they have nowhere else to go. 😦 It would be advisable if the OP knows of these incidents personally, to forward them directly to Rome.

If it is wheat bread, it is valid matter, even if leavened.

Can. 924 §1 The most holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist must be celebrated in bread, and in wine to which a small quantity of water is to be added.

§2 The bread must be wheaten only, and recently made, so that there is no danger of corruption.

§3 The wine must be natural, made from grapes of the vine, and not corrupt.

Can. 925 Holy communion is to be given under the species of bread alone or, in accordance with the liturgical laws, under both species or, in case of necessity, even under the species of wine alone.

Can. 926 In the eucharistic celebration, in accordance with the ancient tradition of the latin Church, the priest is to use unleavened bread wherever he celebrates Mass.

Can. 927 It is absolutely wrong, even in urgent and extreme necessity, to consecrate one element without the other, or even to consecrate both outside the eucharistic celebration.

Source The Code of Canon Law

This particular forum is for discussion of Traditional Roman or Latin Rite Catholicism, It is not designed to bring up what may or may not be done in other Rites. What the other Rites do is their own concern and has no bearing on the Latin Rite whatsoever…

Your statement about wheat bread leavened or not, always being valid matter is not supported by Canon Law as unleavened wheat bread **MUST **always be used. Any other type used would not be valid matter.

Technicolour fringed stoles? Green and white checkerboard stoles?

And am I to understand he put our Lord in plastic and glass?

Don’t worry, yours is a common mistake among people who have just read those couple of sentences of the canon law but aren’t familiar with the context or the Church’s longstanding theology on the issue (hint: most if not all Eastern Catholic churches use leavened bread). This piece from EWTN ought to give you a good starting point, though.

If you think this is just “modernism” or whatever, or don’t care what they do in the Eastern Catholic churches, then I’d happily point you to De Defectibus, which states, “If the bread has begun to mold, but it is not corrupt, or if it is not unleavened according to the custom of the Latin Church, the Sacrament is valid but the celebrant is guilty of grave sin.”

Yup on what Mark said about the quotes from canon law about the matter to be used for the Eucharist.

The Code of Canon Law is telling us what is licit. But that which is unlawful can still be valid.

Leavened bread is merely illicit (and then only for the Roman Church), not invalid. For a Roman Rite priest, it’s major illicit act, but not invalid.

Otherwise, the Eastern Catholic Churches would be invalid, and they most certainly are not invalid according to Rome.

For the* Western Latin Rite Catholic Church*, valid matter consists of wheat unleavened bread and grape wine.

The Eastern Rites have different rules and they are not what is being discussed here as it was not Eastern Rites that were being represented in the photos in question. My apologies if my post confused you.

These pictures are horrifying. These “priests” should be laicized immediately. How tragic that many in Brazil are being led astray.

GIRM 282. According to the tradition of the entire Church, the bread must be made from wheat; according to the tradition of the Latin Church, it must be unleavened.
Redemptionis Sacramentum 48-50: :
“The bread used in the celebration of the Most Holy Eucharistic Sacrifice must be unleavened, purely of wheat, and recently made so that there is no danger of decomposition. It follows therefore that bread made from another substance, even if it is grain, or if it is mixed with another substance different from wheat to such an extent that it would not commonly be considered wheat bread, does not constitute valid matter for confecting the Sacrifice and the Eucharistic Sacrament.”
