JW’s knocked on the door again today. I thought after the first time they wouldn’t be back. This was a few weeks ago when I saw the woman standing there with her 2 poor shivering children on the step and I invited them in. She refused and left hurriedly. I though I scared them away with hospitality. Nope.

Today it was the same woman with a man who double-teamed me. Lots of Bible-pointing and I wasn’t sure where they were going with that, since they didn’t touch any JW doctrines (I boned up on them after the first visit, just in case 😉 .) My question is, where is the Devil now? They pointed out that in Revelation 12:7 that the devil is cast down from heaven. So I told them that this happened in the far past. They responded with that in the book of Job, Satan still had access to heaven. So, chronologically, the battle with Michael described there couldn’t have happened before the creation of Man. It must be a future prophecy. They seemed to be pushing that Satan is at work in the world today, so perhaps we are living in the times described by Rev 12.

I suppose that since they don’t believe in Hell, that next time they will show this as a proof text that Satan couldn’t be presiding over Hell if he hasn’t been cast out yet. I dunno.

Anyhow, is there anything I can read that addresses the Catholic position on Revelation insofar as the Devil is concerned. I have read “The Lamb’s Supper” so I am familiar with Revelation’s relationship to the Mass. I plan to buy “Answering Jehovah’s Witnesses.” This devil related stuff is probably tied up with the varying flavors of pre/post/a-millenialists.

Any thoughts?

The devil doesn’t live within time. He was cast out of heaven as an angel of heaven long before earth was created, but he had access to the heavenly court as “the accuser of the brethren,” as St. John put it in Rev. 12:10, which is why we see him doing just that in Job. Don’t let these people, with their limited ideas about time and eternity get you worried over nothing. Their theology, if you can call it that, is made up of nothing but what their founder wanted to believe and has nothing to do with proper biblical interpretation or sound teaching. And you don’t have to see them again if you don’t want to. All they want is to convert you, not listen to what you might have to say.

Since Satan is not a material being, the question of where Satan is does not apply to him. Satan is a fallen angel and is in a state of being willfully separated from God (i.e. in the state of Hell).
