What exactly you mean by the CONTENT? It was memorized then placed on scrolls in writting?
As I mentioned earlier, just as Muslims memorize the Qu’ran, Jews memorize the Torah. If every copy of it in the world disappeared right this minute, you could go to Brooklyn and get it all back overnight. Right down to the last jot and tittle. They take this seriously.

I’m not a Jew, by the way, nor do I play one on TV (American joke), but I know Orthodox Jews. They are very intense about the Scriptures.

I’m a guest. in Islam guests get treated good. I know this is the same in Christianity.🙂
Yeah. We’ll treat you as if you were Christ himself! But you still have to do your own homework.

Jesus didn’t do homework. Allah told him what to say, and what Allah didn’t teach him, he learned from the Priests. So how are you treating me like Isa? 🙂

And I don’t think that Exoflare and InJesus will treat me like you have. They seem intolerant to anyone that is not Catholic. I’ve heard about them on

sufi, if the site is incorrect then you can correct them. But I think they have it right. Robert Spencer, of whom I am sure you have heard, has written on this as well. I realize that such conclusions are scary for Muslims, but as I said they must be dealt with. I would encourage you to approach it with an open mind.

Let 'em Ex & In be. But since you’re not Isa and I’m not a priest, you’ll STILL have to read that stuff for yourself. Hey: I thought you were in your mosque.

Pray for me.

I don’t know where to go for pictures. They keep it in the British Museum because the guy who found it at St. Catherine’s Monastery in Jebel Musa asked to “borrow” it and, well, it never quite made it back home.

Sufi, my Son: this is easily available information.

**By the way!!! **St. Catherine’s Monastery (which has a grant of perpetual protection written in the hand of Muhammad himself! – for real) has the second largest collection of ancient manuscripts in the world – after the Vatican. They have a grant (I forget who from) which has given them digital recording equipment to copy all of the ancient manuscripts so they can be shared by scholars everywhere without damaging the precious originals. Is that cool, or what?
Correction: the edict of protection was not written in the hand of the Prophet; it was authorized by him.

Also, why do they keep it there? Is there a significance of this? Is the location significant?
It is an interesting story.
How did the Codex come to the British Library?
The 694 pages held by the British Library were purchased for the British nation in 1933. Over half of the price paid, £100,000, was raised by means of a public fund-raising campaign. The seller, the Soviet Government of Joseph Stalin, sold the Codex to obtain desperately needed foreign capital.
Before it came to Britain the Codex had been one of the treasures of the Imperial Russian Library in St Petersburg. This Library had acquired it in 1869, 10 years after its presentation to Tsar Nicholas II by the German biblical scholar Constantine Tischendorf.
During three separate visits to St Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai, Tischendorf had several portions of the Codex brought to his attention by the monks there. Tischendorf took part of the first portion that he saw in 1844 back to Leipzig University, where he was a professor. The last portion that he found at St Catherine’s is now in the British Library. Tischendorf was quick to recognise both the great antiquity and textual importance of the Codex, and within a very short period he made available to scholars exemplary editions of the Greek text of the Codex.

If you visit that link and click on “enlarged image”, you can a full page from the Codex.

Everything I know about Jews and the Torah indicates that nobody EVER, EVER, EVER changes ANYTHING. Jews do not even touch the sacred pages of a scroll when they read it in the Synagogue: they use a special pointer.

Any variation that might creep into a text is generally small and easily identified. The Scriptures are the most sacred thing Jews have. It is protected and cherished: “make them known to your children and your children’s children.” Many people memorize the entire Torah.

The Masoretes, who are responsible for the most complete Hebrew Bible, would not change even an obvious error, but enter a note in the margin. Jews don’t mess with the Word of God (to put it in crude modern terms.)

More broadly, where variations in the text appear, they are not the SAME variation. So if you have 10 ancient manuscripts, and each of them has one variation, it will not be the SAME variation. So from the remaining 9 manuscripts, it is possible to determine the original text.

One great affirmation of the authenticity of the Bible we have today is the fact that when ancient scrolls are discovered, they match what we already have. This is true across wide tracts of geography and time.

Here is a link to the Catholic Encyclopedia article on the Old Testament manuscripts. Lest you have reservations about accepting information from a Catholic source, be assured that the references can all be checked and that the catalogs of manuscripts are all well known. This is an area of utmost importance, and scholars require the most extreme scrupulosity in documenting everything accurately. The Catholic Encyclopedia is old – published in 1913 – and much has been recovered and learned since then, so I advise you to look around for more current information.

The Qumran scrolls, discovered in 1947, were about 1000 years older than the earliest Jewish manuscripts known at the time, and they match!

Please read that article in the Encyclopedia. It is full of important information.
Excellent post! 🙂

How is it Muslims have so little knowledge of the scriptures that they love to criticize so much? Especially when the points they’re trying to use to sling mud apply even more to the Quran than the Bible?
You could never be a follower of the Prophet Jesus the way you speak would be un acceptable to Jesus and Muhammad alike. You don’t have anything intelligent to say so why don’t you shut up?

Sufi – are you a high school student? College?
Hi Mercy!🙂

This is not for school. I will get a Doctorate in Religious Studies insha `Allah, mainly Islamic Studies. Right now I hold a degree in digital design, and I took a few elective religious courses here and there. I learn religion online, books, my family and friends and from local scholars, both Christian and Islamic in my area.

It was in Stalin’s hands?
Isn’t this fascinating? The more you learn about this stuff, the more intriguing it becomes. The preservation and recovery of the Scriptures is one of the greatest stories ever told.

:crying:

I’m not talking about change sister. I’m talking about perseration. How was it preserved? If it wasn’t preserved then there was nothing to change or not change. You see what I’m saying?

I didn’t read the whole link.Does it talk about preserving the Torah? How was it preserved? This is what I am concerned with right now.

There is no where in ahadith or Qur’an that I have read that Scriptures are corrupted. I believe due to lack of preservation, and bad translation, message has been lost. That’s my personal view.

Also what happened when the Bible was banned accross the globe. What happened in those eras. This is what I am concerned with. What about the deleted books etc? Why was these books deleted (Apocolypse) etc. This is my concern. This is what I’m asking for information on. 🙂
I think you are misunderstanding. When he mentions that they buried the torah when it was worn out, he does not mean they didn’t make new copies. The Jews continuously made new copies of the scriptures. The scriptures were preserved.

This is very disturbing. Joseph Stalin was a bigot, and a man of Shaytan not God. The more I learn about this the more I hold on to Islam. I’m sure he tampered it intentionally.

Miss Mercy are there any more references about hows hands the Bible passed through?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Stalin

Born Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili (Georgian: იოსებ ჯუღაშვილი; Russian: Иосиф Виссарионович Джугашвили [Iosif Vissarionovič Džugašvili]), Stalin became General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party in 1922. Following the death of Vladimir Lenin, he prevailed over Leon Trotsky in a power struggle during the 1920s. In the 1930s, Stalin initiated the Great Purge, a campaign of political repression, persecution and mass slaughter.
