Where is the Scripture that supports the anti-papacy position?

When reading the Bible I’m finding it difficult to find anything that would suggest it was an unusual practice for God to appoint one man to act as His earthly representative to His people.

I don’t know about anyone else but this sounds a lot like the hierarchy of the Catholic Church were the Pope acting as Gods vicar handles huge disputes while appointing others like: Archbishops, Bishops, and priests to handle the peoples smaller disputes.

I just looks like Peter is to the New Testament Church what Moses was to the Old Testament.

What am I missing? Where does all of this anti-papacy stuff come from?

I don’t understand where anti-papcy comes from either now, however before my conversion into the Catholic Church and as a Protestant, I couldn’t see where the papacy came in. Isaiah was my favorite book of the OT but I missed where Hezekiah gives his steward, Shebna, the keys of the kingdom and what was to be loosed he loosed and what he chose not wouldn’t be loosed. ('Course I also missed Matt. 16:18). It just had no meaning for me.

Thank you for your response and insights. I find it odd how there are so many threads asking Catholics to explain and defend their belief in the Papacy while there are almost no threads asking those who do not believe in the Papacy to explain their position. I was expecting to get a slew of posts from non-catholics giving a defence for their belief against the papacy.
