I was reading Matthew 27, and it mentions in verses 9-10, a prophecy from Jeremiah that Judas supposedly fulfilled. However, this prophecy does not seem to exist. Can someone help me find where this prophecy is?
Are you sure? Even putting aside Matthew’s error in saying Jeremiah rather than Zechariah, the verses you quoted to me are very different from the prophecy mentioned in Matthew 27:9-10. The only thing the two passages have in common is that someone receives 30 pieces of silver, other than that there are no similarities. In the passage in Zechariah, the person receives the money for doing a good work, and then deposits it in the treasury, whereas in Matthew, Judas receives the money for doing an evil work, and the elders refuse to deposit it in the treasury, which is why they buy a field with it. It seems the only thing these passages do have in common are that someone receives 30 pieces of silver. The whole rest of the passages don’t match up, however. Are you sure that Zechariah 11:12-13 is the prophecy that Matthew is referring to?It is in Zechariah 11:12-13 and not Jeremiah.![]()
