Where is Vincent D'Onofrio?

I turned on L&O CI this Sunday and…No Vinnie. Just Chris Noth and some girl who is not the Alex Eames character. I understood (apparently mistakenly) that Noth & D’Onofrio were going to be the new team.
Goren & Eames have just…poof!..disappeared. ???
 
I read that the two teams are going to take turns. I don’t know why, but seems like they’ll be taking alternate weeks.
 
They’re alternating weeks. Doing a series is really tough work, so they’re alternating to give each other a break and keep their schedules from getting so hectic. I think it’s a great idea, but I’m wondering if the viewers will go for it.

They are taking alternating weeks. He will be back next week. 👍
D’Onofrio needed/wanted some time off during the season. He had some problems with exhaustion. 😦 At least that is what I have read.

CI just isn’t CI without D’Onofrio. His Goren is so strange and odd and fasinating to watch.

Strange and odd is right. He doesn’t seem like a cop. That’s why I’ve had a hard time getting used to his character after being accustomed to watching the old Law and Order series in re-runs.
