In what realm of existence currently are our souls (i.e., those who are still alive on earth)? Heaven? Hell? Purgatory? Somewhere else? They can’t be part of the universe because they’re not material; I always imagined them as somehow “connected” to our bodies but I’m beginning to think that’s not accurate.
Outstanding questions, my friend! I look forward to discussion! To gain a working understanding of where are our souls, please consider the following concepts:
A spirit is image, knowledge, past-actions. Some examples: As you look at a photograph of a person, your mind is thinking about the exact image of the person in a certain time in the past. As you read this post, you are thinking about the exact knowledge of my mind in a certain time in the past. Therefore, you are interacting with another person’s spirit.
Since a spirit exists by a person thinking of an individual, consider the following to develop an understanding of the soul: When any human thinks of another person, it is impossible to give the person free-will. However, when God, the Father, thinks of another person, He is able to give the person free-will. Therefore, the person, in the thoughts of God, the Father, exists as a free-willed soul.
So the realm of existence as to which our free-willed souls exists is in the Mind of God, the Father.
Since God has let us know of a Heaven, earth, purgatory, and Hell; and since our physical being is doing exactly what our soulful being did in God’s Thoughts a long time ago, then within His Mind there is a precise thoughtful location of each place.
Also given that our physical being will be doing exactly what our soulful being is doing in God’s Thoughts right now; and since God’s Thoughts are focused on happenings from choices we make that are so distant in our future, it is impossible for us to know exactly which place is the current dwelling of our soul. This is why I pray so hard for my soul to continually strive to become a better follower of Christ, to always bless the Lord and His Holy Name, and most especially, never quit Loving Jesus Christ and His Church. I also hope my soul has made it into Heaven, where the resurrected body of Jesus is.
