Where should I go for answers on faith?

First of all, we have a wonderful parish and our pastor is a very kind man. Because he’s so kind, he’s busy like crazy.

I have been waiting 2 weeks for him to return my phone call for a meeting. I have so many unanswered questions. He saw me at Confession last weekend and apologized for not calling - told me he had had a week from hell. He was very kind to me at mass on Sunday (he looked really tired though) and he still hasn’t called me this week either 🤷

I’m starting to think that maybe I should just forget about meeting with him - he obviously doesn’t have time…but I have so many questions about my new faith. I would like to join the RCIA group (to listen in), but I have a baby at home and I can’t really leave her.

I am basically trying to get my questions answered via the internet, CAF and various books. I wish I could get more support from my parish, but our pastor is super busy and I guess he has to prioritize his tasks…he knows I’m happily married with a baby…that’s not as high a priority as someone who’s going through a divorce, etc…

…where to go for support?

Maybe ask him if there are groups that meet from the parish? Prayer groups, scripture study groups, mother’s groups (you can usually bring babies to those! :D)…
Also, the Catechism is going to be your best friend! Definitely get a hard copy of that, but it’s also online here
Hopefully there will be some groups that you can join at your parish, though.

Good luck and good job exploring deeper into your faith! 👍

Check with your Parish Office and get the name/number of the RCIA Coordinator and the Director of Religious Education (sometimes this is the same person :)). Do you have a Deacon at your Parish? They often assist in taking some of the load off the Pastor.

Regarding the baby and RCIA, bring him/her along! We have one young couple that does just that it is a rather nice thing to hear incoherent babbling and screaming that isn’t coming from one of us classmembers, now and then. 😉

ps. Seriously, bring the child. If anywhere should be child friendly, it is the Catholic church.

Well, on my journey into Catholicism I had circumstances that made RCIA next to impossible…so I read books, got a LOT of questions answered right here at CAF, and was able to meet with a nun at our parish to answer and questions and to have her assess if I was ready to enter the Church. So, while your priest may just be too busy, definitely ask him who may be available to answer your questions!
