Where should I hide a green scapular?

I’d like to buy a green scapular in favor of my not-so-Catholic parents and recite the daily prayer on their behalf. The problem is that there is no chance that I can put the green scapular in my parents’ bedroom without my mother finding it, no chance of my mother not telling my father about it, and definitely no chance of my father keeping it there. Therefore I ask: Am I allowed to keep the green scapular in my bedroom instead of my parents’?

Sneaking into your parents’ bedroom to hide a green scapular there would be a violation of their privacy. (Think, for example, how you would feel if your parents snuck into your room, without just cause, while you were out.) So placing it in their bedroom was problematic anyway, even if they would not have objected to the scapular itself.

Since you still live in your parents’ home, why not hide the scapular in one of the common living areas of the home? Then, if your mother finds it, all you need say is, “Oh, thanks for finding that for me, Mom.”
