When I’m out of town. I will be away for several months coming up soon, and trying to find a parish to attend.

According to the LatinRiteMass site and the FSSP site, there are no EF Masses reasonably close enough to attend regularly. Not even at a regular parish, that I can tell.

NOT to start something ~ PLEASE!! ~ but is it permissible/licit/valid/whatever-you-wanna-call-it to attend Mass at a SSPV or SSPX church? Or better to stick w OF until I return?

*****FWIW, I do not need opinions/facts, etc. about the different orders - I know the difference, so please, I just need help figuring out what I should do, not what form is the best/most valid/whatever. My personal preference is what it is, and what I would prefer to stick to, if I can during this time. TIA for keeping this on point! 😉 *****

Here’s a quote from an article I found on EWTN:
I would say, therefore, that a conscientious Catholic should not knowingly attend a Mass celebrated by a priest not in good standing with the Church. Doing so deprives participation at Mass of that fullness of communion with Christ and his Church which the Mass, by its very nature and in all its forms, is called to express.

The rest of the article can be found here.

I would have no quams about attending an SSPX Mass. Just don’t get deeply involved with them. I know there is lots of controversy about them and you’ll find lots of folks that totally misrepresent what has been said in Rome. They have valid Masses, its that they are illicit.
You can fulfill your Sunday obligation going to them.

But stay away from SSPV. These folks are really sedevacantist.
I, personally, go to the FSSP but have gone to the SSPX in the past.
God Bless

Attending Mass at an SSPX chapel when you know there is a legitimate alternative is a schizmatic act. Note the word know.

SSPX priests have no faculties to publicly exercise their ministry. They have no permission from the Bishop to say Mass. These disregard the Bishop’s legitimate authority, which comes from Christ himself, and say Mass anyway. Disregarding the authority which Christ placed in the Bishop is a schismatic act. People who knowingly go to such a priest for Mass when there is an alternative also disregard the Bishops legitimate authority and commit a schismatic act themselves. Note the word knowingly.

Nobody is formally declared to be in schizm but these are objectively scizmatic acts if done knowingly.

It’s like a doctor practicing without a license. They are still a doctor but you need a license from the state to practice. Patients who knowingly go to an unlicensed doctor when there is an alternative flaunt the states legitimate authority to license doctors no less so than the doctor himself.

You are either in communion with Rome or you are not. You are either in communion with the local Bishop who derives his authority from Christ, or you are not. You can’t have it both ways.

yes, very true. I am going to be attending the local Novus Ordo parish.

I appreciate all the information on this! 🙂

Go to the SSPX. Don’t go to the SSPV because they are sedevacantist.

The Bishop, in communion with the Bishop of Rome and his brother Bishops, is Christ’s authority on earth. Without the Bishop there is no Church. The Church exists in any give place only because of the presence of the Bishop.

Bishop: You may not exercise your ministry.
SSPX Priest: I don’t care. I’m doing it anyway.
Parishoner: I don’t care either. I’m going.

Whoa!

It’s not about how nice the people are or what was said in Rome. It’s about the legitimate authority of the Bishop to govern the Church.
