Where to donate to the poor

Hi all:

I recently received a flyer in our parish newspaper for Food For The Poor, INC. This flyer tore my heart out… perhaps because I am a new (first-time) parent. I have been financially blessed and would like to make a donation. How can I find out if this company isn’t contradicting our beliefs (providing birth control, etc) and is honest about using a huge percentage of donated money to feed the needy rather than thickening their CEO’s wallet? If not this company, can anyone vouch for a good Catholic company to help feed the world’s poor?

you can donate in any Catholic Church to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. they usually have an envelop there and a box to drop off the donation. some churches will allow you to drop of wrapped covered food as well.
 
There’s a wonderful group called the
Franciscan Mission Associates. Just Google the name, and a link to their website will come up.
On the website, you can donate to the Franciscan Milk Fund for the poor children of the missions in Central America, as well as to Saint Anthony’s Bread for the poor.

I really trust the Franciscan Mission Associates.

Also, a group called CATHOLIC WORLD MISSION,
which is affiliated with the Legionaries of Christ,
is also very good.

In addition, the President makes something like $400,000. I want to support the organization, but am really torn by the above. Any insight would be good.

There is a Catholic charity whose president makes $40,000 annually (that’s right just enough to live on while he runs the charity full time). They provide aid to the poor in third world countries.

I know someone who contributes and is very satisfied with the charity. The children he supports have gained weight, they wear better clothes, they have medical and dental care, and get to eat every day, and they can go to school instead of working.

The charity is also very honest about the situation. You can send gifts to the children, but nothing too big or expensive, or else the family will never get it because of the government corruption over there. They also tell you that if you “adopt” these children, you need to take on the responsibility until they turn 18, because you can’t give them hope for a decent future and then pull the rug out from under them.

I just don’t remember the name of the charity. I will post again when I find out.

I know what they do, I think it’s an ineffective approach. I probably shouldn’t have said anything because it isn’t really on topic.

We actually donate through the Australian chapter, Caritas Australia caritas.org.au//AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home1
