Where to find a legit Novus Ordo?

My parish in New Mexico is a NO parish. I find in this forum that some EF parishioners demean the NO no matter what. Yes, my parish has altar girls. Yes, my parish has EMHC. I don’t like it. In fact, a lot of the parishioners don’t.

What we do have, however, is ad orientem on solemnities, incense, chant, bells, and Latin regular parts (like the Agnus Dei) every Sunday.

It’s great. I like it a lot. I would have been much less likely to convert had Mass been only in Latin. I would have thought, “Creepy cult!”

As in one in union with Rome? No, I really don’t think so. Good suggestion though, never thought about that!

The nearest TLM is an hour + drive away 😦 Everything else is your standard English, piano and guitar music kind of Mass. I would love to check out some other rites of the Church, like Byzantine and Ukrainian, but unfortunately there’s none anywhere close either!
Heck, my parents have to drive that far to get to ANY Mass on Sundays! I guess it was their choice to live in a remote area, but if it’s only once or twice a month it’s not too hideous.

I don’t mean to make you jealous, but there is a Maronite Catholic Church (West Syriac Antiochene Tradition) near me, too. As far as I know, they are the only Catholic Church which uses all three of the major terms (Mass, Divine Liturgy, and Qurbono) to describe the Eucharistic feast. I may be wrong, of course…

It is:

St. George Maronite Catholic Church

San Antonio, TX 78240

Now, since you asked out Novus Ordo Missae, then this is a little off topic.😃 From what I understand, the priest(s) rotate in and out every year or so.

I have to drive an hour+ to attend a TLM. Obviously you unfortunetly will not be able to attend every Sunday, but the long drive really is worth it. Pray for God’s Will. The long drive would seem like your best bet to me, however.

God Bless.

Haha, I know some Catholics who think that way! I’ve noticed the demaning too, and honestly I thought badly of the OF ingeneral until I read this book and realized not all of them are/should be like that.

That’s so sad. Thanks for putting it in perspective 👍
Well, if you ever visit Texas, you know who to call!
K, it’s a date!

Good intentions… but I’m still jealous!!

I had no idea Texas had so many Catholics
Here’s a video of an Anglican Use Mass. It’s beautiful!

That looks almost indistinguishable from the Latin Mass! Wow! Thanks so much for posting this

Poor video quality, but it gives the idea

Gracias Senor 😉 You’re very blessed too to have found such a beautiful Mass to attend.

That’s what I think God is telling me… at first I felt like I should stick it out with the local Masses until I go to college, where I can go to the Latin Mass, but now every Sunday I can, I’ll make the drive (Sundays were beginning to drag me down, besides the Eucharist of course). Perhaps one or two weeks out of the month I’ll stay at my home parish, for my mother’s sake and because the priest is like my grandpa 🙂

Oh yeah, tons of Catholics down here. We are blessed. There are areas that can be not so Catholic friendly, but we’re always a presence regardless. Just my little corner of Texas is home to:

Czechs
Hispanics
Germans
French
Irish
Poles
Vietnamese
Cambodians
Nigerians
…and many others, all who make up the local Church.

Coincidentally (or not so much) I heard from a friend tonight that Holy Rosary in downtown Houston offers the Latin Novus Ordo every Sunday at 9:30, and at least some weekdays.

A book I read recently (The Liturgy Betrayed, by Crouan) spoke about the post-Vatican II debate between TLM’ers and modern Novus Ordo’ers as irrelevant: that the real travesty is that a Mass was created that a year or two afterwards was tossed out for being too traditional: I’m speaking of the Novus Ordo as it was written, with incense, ad orientum, chant, Latin, the whole shebang.

Anybody know where to find one?? The book called for our right to attend the true Mass of Vatican II, but sympathized with TLM’ers because the true Novus Ordo is nowhere to be found.

PS: I don’t mean, legit, or real as my own personal opinions or preferences, but rather what came straight from the council.
You should remember that a lot of the changes, such as the vernacular Mass, may not have been called for by the Council, but they exist by the legitimate authority of the Pope. Councils don’t trump popes. The OF can already be celebrated with incense, ad orientum, in Latin, etc., but if it isn’t, it doesn’t mean that that particular celebration is not authoritatively legitimate.

The “authentic” V2 Mass was already promulgated by Pope Paul VI! He was the Pope who inherited the council and brought it it to it’s completion and promulgated the Mass accordingly. To say that we need an ‘authentic’ V2 Mass is to say that Pope Paul VI didn’t know what he was doing and we should disregard his binding authoritative decisions. Are you saying that Pope Paul VI was somehow incompetent and Pope Benedict XVI knows better?

The vernacular version which has been in use for over 40 years, as ugly as it may be, was not only approved by the US Bishops but also approved by the Vatican. Why are they all of a sudden deficient? Why is Rome now saying they’re not worthy when they themselves approved them under Paul VI?

Now that you mention it, I think during the last 40 years, we’ve heard enough about the Pope Paul VI being superior to and knew better than St Pope Pius V, enough to try to undermine Quo Primum anyway. So it works both ways, you know.

Both popes held the same authority for the time they held it. I doubt there’s much benefit in trying to pit them against one another.

At the time of the Vatican II Council, most people seemed willing to accept what the Pope was doing. Paul VI wanted to create a new Mass, that was his goal all along. The Vatican approved because modernist people took over and liked the reform. Paul VI in no way knew better than Pius V. If Pius V or X had been alive at the time, they would have said “Wait a minute, stop! This isn’t right! You’re creating a Mass that goes almost completely against what we and other past Popes have talked aobut over the years”. There are actually alot of rumors going around about Paul VI. One rumor is that he was forced to do what he did and later he was “truely sorry” for it. Alot of mysterious things took place at that Council.

St. John Cantius in Chicago, the Canons of St. John run the parish, every mass is adorientem, with all the trimmings so to speak. some are EF, some are OF, some OFs are in english sung form, and others in latin…

link: cantius.org/
There is no “high” or “low” Mass in the OF.
actually yes there is…Ferial day Masses are technically considered low Masses, and technically can only have two candles lit, where as Memorials feasts and Solemnities are technically to have 6 candles(almost never done of course…) and are considered High Masses…Solemn, Missa cantata, etc…are all gone of course. Reqiem and Nuptual just have different names (aka Funeral and Wedding)

Yes, Anglican Use Latin Rite parishes, under the Pastoral Provision. We’re blessed to have 4 of the 7 here in Texas. Gorgeous liturgy! I suppose the homilies may vary, but the parish I’ve attended many times seems to have orthodox pastors.

Here’s a listing:

pastoralprovision.org/Parishes.html
there are a lot more than 7 now!👍 the ACA came ion under the Ordinariete system so there are about i think 100 more or something close to that…and more groups consider that system every day!..sorry i know its kindof off topic, but i rejoice greatly in the unification with our Anglican brethren…🙂

In Massachusetts St. Benedict’s abbey in Still River (Harvard) offers the OF Mass in Latin with Gregorian Chant by the monks and incense. The Mass is done Versus Populum though. At least this is how it was the last time I went which was a couple of years ago. It is a little confusing there as the nearby St. Benedict Center and St. Ann’s convent both offer only the EF Mass so you have to make sure you go to the right one. 🙂

Indeed… and my point was to get people thinking about this elusive “true Vatican II.” We hear so much about it yet no one can ever get it to show itself. I think it was Michael Davies who said ‘When your lost sometimes going back is progress.’
