To the best of my knowledge it hasn’t been released yet. I seem to recall that it will be some time this spring.

The official website has been disappointing in that it is not updated. 😦

The distributor for the film in U.S. is Zeitgeist Films.

There will be a limited theatrical release of the film in the U.S. beginning February 28.

Zeitgeist doesn’t say when the DVD will be available for purchase (other than 2007), but the Canadian distributor (Mongrel Media) will reportedly make it available on April 3.

One poster on a monastic interest mail list mentioned that someone is putting together a pre-order for the DVD.

I really wanted to see this documentary. I am still considering the Carthusians as a possible order to go into, but the only monastery ( in the U.S.) is in New Hampshire or Vermont. So, living in the Midwest and unable to drive, I really would like to see this film. I suppose I could go to the Trappist monastery, but it just wouldn’t be the same.

The Charterhouse of the Transfiguration is in the countryside near Arlington, Vermont. Here are a handful of photos taken there. And here is the wikipedia article on that charterhouse.

Like you, I am a long ways from Minneapolis or Chicago so I plan on buying the DVD. Driving to either location would probably cost me as much. 😦

I’m hoping that every diocese will buy a copy (or two) of the DVD and make it available to parishes to borrow. Perhaps it is worth asking for?

You might also, if you are not already a member, be interested signing up for the mail list of the International Fellowship of St. Bruno. It is a group for persons with an interest in the Carthusian way. Obviously there are no Carthusian monks or nuns on the list, but there are a few former Carthusians and interesting things can be learned.

Music Box April 6.

Just a bookmark for myself.

Thanks, I signed up and am looking forward to hearing from them.

Amazon UK indicates that the DVD is set for release on 14 May 2007. U.S. release is set for 23 October 2007 as it is still in distribution in cinemas in some parts of the U.S.

I attained a copy from Germany, but it will only play on my computer and there are no English subtitles…which doesn’t matter much being that there is not more than about 2 minutes of talking in the film…awesome movie by the way!

An outstanding review of the film, including many comments by the director, appeared in the recent issue of Catholic World Report. You can read it here. (caution - it is lengthy)

After reading it, I am glad I will be getting the two DVD set in the fall. 🙂

This is was a great read, and also gives the link to where the movie is playing at various theaters across the country. Looking forward to it coming to my area.

Run–do not walk–the the nearest theater showing this. Don’t wait for the DVD. I saw this today and it was remarkable!

Also, on Oct 26, EWTN will be broadcasting “Into Great Silence”

Mark your calendar!
