Hi,

I’m getting married in November and my bride-to-be and I have agreed upon having an EF high mass. We’re really hoping to hire a good and experienced group to do the gregorian chant and singing, but I haven’t the first idea where to look! We’re to be married in Northeast Florida and we’re hoping to find somebody nearby, but we’re willing to pay to fly some people in if there is nothing nearby. Please let me know if you have any ideas of where to look for this!

Thanks.

Your best bet is to talk to the priest who will be celebrating the nuptial Mass, or to ask the pastor of a local EF parish or community. They’ll know the “scene,” so to speak, and should be able to recommend someone.

If your Diocese has a Latin Liturgy Association; you can check with them.

This might help: International registry of Gregorian scholas

There appears to be three scholas in central and southern Florida, and one in Savannah, Georgia. Not sure if that’s close enough for you but they may be able to point you to closer resources.

The choir where you attend the EF would be the obvious first place.

Unfortunately, there isn’t really a choir at my church (or even in my diocese) that is trained with Gregorian chant. I only know of myself and one other person in the diocese that have any experience with Gregorian chant, and even my training is fairly limited.

Not familiar with the Latin Liturgy Association. We do have two parishes in the diocese that celebrate the Latin Liturgy, but neither of them have choirs that can sing Gregorian chant. Unfortunately, it’s Low Mass all the time!

Very helpful! I’ve contacted the one in Savannah to see if they can help.

Also check with your local high school and college music departments, especially if they have a sacred music program. We were required to be well versed in polyphony and chant in college and our high school choir director insisted on it as well. You may not get only Catholics however so you may need to interview and make that part of your own criteria for performers if you wish to exclude those who learn chant for secular reasons.
