I’m writting to ask for the knowlege of places my daughter can go for assistance. Her husband has been ordered out of the house thru an order of protection. He has refused to work for a yr. His parents have been sending money to him to pay house payment and van and utilities etc. She has no money, and has not had luck in going to churches to ask for financial assistance. Does anyone have any idea where she can go to get the help she needs right now. Please respond asap. Now that her husband is out of the house, his parents refuse to financially help her and the children. Her situation is quite desparate. God Bless for reading this.

She can apply for assistance…welfare…to help feed and keep the children safe. She might also see if there is a St. Vincent DePaul Society Chapter in her town or nearby. They may be able to give her help…and some guidance as well.

I wish her well!!

You said an order of protection? Consider a battered womans’ shelter. You local social service agency should be able to direct her to one immediately, perhaps even provide transportation.

She could probably go to court and have the husband ordered to pay support. Collecting it will be exceedingly difficult as there are no wages to garnish.

If at all possible, try to get her to move in with you

Judging by your question, your daughter is either not in the same city as you or, for whatever reason, you are unable to take her in. This must be very frustrating for you.

I am not sure if you are asking for a short-term immediate solution, or something longer term, like getting a job and day-care for the children.

My prayers are with you and your daughter.

The Red Cross was paying 1 power bill / year for persons having financial difficulties. She really should seek welfare and foodstamps. She sounds like the kind of person who deserves these services.

go to her local Catholic Charities, frequently they will have a lead on a battered woman’s shelter and other agencies that may be able to give her some temporary assistance until she lands on her feet.

isp.state.il.us/links/links.cfm#8

Here’s a host of links for people who are victims of domestic violence. I just went to a workshop this weekend and the statistics are staggering. 28% of the American population is affected. 1 in 4 people. Mind blowing to me. Unfortunately, they are afraid to speak up and frequently not until they are actually critically injured or even killed is the problem revealed.

More reasons to pray.
