Hi, so I’m 22 and looking to find a good, responsible, truly Catholic man to date…problem is, I don’t know where! It’s really frustrating. Firstly, I feel the internet is just not for me, I’ve looked at the dating sites, and I would feel weird. I also feel like Church would be a place, but I don’t think I should go to Mass looking for a man. No Catholic Singles groups in my area…anyone have any recommendations? How did you meet your SO? Thanks in advance and God Bless 🙂

I’ve lost count of the number of people I know (self included) who met their spouse through pro-life activities…

How about Opus Dei events? That might be a place to start.

the guy i’m sort of seeing right now i met through pro-life activities! 👍

I’m a 23 year old guy and I met my gf from basically just seeing her at Mass everyday.

Recently this girl at my parish started a young adults group for people in their 20s and I showed up (there were young families there too) Anyway, this girl recently asked me out, unfortunately for her I was taken. Anyway, you could always do that. Be proactive!

Any extracurricular Church activites like pro-life stuff, soup kitchen, habitat for humanity, etc, etc are all good too.

Good luck. Keep praying and don’t settle for less than you are looking for! True story: I was getting discouraged that there were no nice Catholic girls out there so I prayed to God and described exactly what I needed in a girl and also qualities that I knew would compliment my personality and that would be conducive to a good relationship. A week later, my current gf, who fit my description to a T, introduced herself to me. Pretty cool.

Try doing the 7 Sunday Devotion to St. Joseph 🙂 and ask for his intercession. I don’t believe he will fail you because there is nothing wrong with what you are asking.

There was this story about a young girl who had been praying to St. Joseph for a good husband but it was taking so long for him to answer her so in her indignation she threw his statue out of her window. And what do you know, a young man was passing by and caught the statue and knocked on her door to return same to her. He happened to be the guy she was looking for. 😃

When I was in college I had my first boyfriend. The Mother Superior of my highschool alma mater (an OSA Nun) advised me to make the devotion to St. Joseph if I wanted to be certain he was the right guy for me. For 3 years I would make the devotion but I would not complete the seven Sundays so I would start over and over again. In my last year in college I suddenly was able to complete it but a few weeks after that my boyfriend and I drifted apart.

When I met my husband I started on the devotion again and I would always complete it each time I did. I took it as a confirmation from God that indeed he was the guy best suited for me. My husband was the 2nd boyfriend I had.

Go try making that devotion. I had recommended this to many of my friends and I guess it really worked wonders for them.

God bless,
Nimfa

So there is hope for me to find a GF? Though my case is quite different since I had never set foot inside a church in 16 years. :o

Hmm, this must be a bad sign that I am a fallen Catholic since I dont know what a “7 Sunday Devotion” is :o.

The 7 Sunday Devotion is a novena to St. Joseph done in 7 consecutive Sundays so you need to attend the Sunday Mass and receive communion if possible for you to do it. Maybe one can find the novena pamphlet in any Catholic bookstore. Probably this will pave the way for you start attending Church . . . 😃

I too would advise against dating sites. Talking on messengers instead of the phone and playing multiplayer computer games instead of some other activities doesn’t sound like a bad idea but you’d really better know the guy offline, as well. There are trust issues. There’s always a problem when dating a stranger for the discernment of future marriage. It’s hard to tell if you can trust the person. Even if you can trust, there can always be communication problems. Then again, you probably know your male friends well enough to tell that none is the right one if you’re turning outside your circle of friends.

You’re going to find lots of nominal Catholics anywhere, but if you want a real one, it has to be the mass or religious meetings. I agree one shouldn’t go to mass to see a guy or a girl… maybe looking around while one should be focused on God isn’t a good idea either. On the other hand, there aren’t many things holier than marriage on this earth. The Lord surely shares your desire to find a good Catholic guy. I would say pray a lot and stay open, but this is easier said than done. Well, but if you could try. Bible study or renewal groups tend to socialise and even have parties. Pretty decent parties without strange substances and men behaving like animals, with polite ballroom dancing and all. Personally, I believe group activities are great for finding the right person and so is hanging around with the girl’s or guy’s family and participating in usual activities instead of saying just someone’s public face in situations which all too often turn awkward.

Prolife activities would be great because you could be sure the guy shared your values and views on the most important matters. Catholics who “disagree with the Church” don’t really have much to do there.

I would suggest building quality friendships with many people (completely casual friends) and then choosing one of them for courting.

Contact the Office of Family Life at your Diocese (you can find the number for your Roman Catholic Dioces in the Phonebook), ask what is available for young singles in your diocese as many dioceses have single’s ministries.

Keep us posted!

Love & peace,
Bob

By all means, hit the Churches. Go to Mass and shop around. I can assure you that you will be noticed. There is absolutly NOTHING wrong with that. Put the word out. Talk to the marriage and family life person. Get them to search their data-base. They’ll do it. Find the busy-body lady, who knows about everyone. Every parish has one. She’ll love to help out.

I’ve been married for many years to a good Catholic girl, and I can tell you, I’m the luckiest man alive. I tell my lonely single friends to forget the bars and the internet. Go to Church and get active, if you want quality.

I guarantee you that there is a good Catholic boy, just dieing to meet you.http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon12.gif

Thanks for the tips, y’all! I am definitely feeling inspired now…I never really thought about pro-life activities being a good place to meet someone, and church too. Thanks! 🙂

Look for an Opus Dei center, or just get involved in your church. I met my bf in Confirmation (okay more like 1st Communion… but didn’t regard him as a good guy until Confirmation being a student teacher)… Amazing who you can find!

I’ve never heard of Opus Dei…I googled it, but not sure if they have one in my area. Thanks though 🙂

To find spiritually strong and good men and women, check out (in Flordia) the CFC-Singles for Christ. Follow this link cfc-jax.org/sfcjax/index.htm

I know it goes to Jacksonville, but from there you should be able to navigate to your part of the state. If you have any questions or want any help, please let me know.

AND the SFC-USA will be holding their National Conference in Orlando this year.

I would start with yourself and Church first. Then girl friend second. This is to avoid any perception of false advertising. :o 🙂

I would focus on your relationship with God and living a holy life. God knows what you need, and he will put the right person in the right place for you when you are truly ready to give yourself fully in marriage.

For years I tried to do things to find a girlfriend, and I never could find one with whom there was mutual interest. Then I just gave it a rest, and surprise, a few years later, I was married to a wonderful, holy woman that I had met at church a while ago, but had never really considered dating. I think God just “revealed” us to each other once we were both ready. Because I think when I was so worried about finding a girlfriend, I was really focused on myself and my own selfish needs. I had to get over that before I could really have a mature relationship.

check on opusdei.org/ and look over the US for your state, city, etc. you can find a center that way! in the search, check for the differnt centers. Where are you located, and I will check at my center and see if I could get you hooked up with one in your area!
