Where to purchase perforated condoms?

So what happens with a single man with a urological problem? Sorry Doc, I guess I’ll just have to suffer and die because I’m not married???

Or is this a case where fornication is permissible? Sure would make for a strange pick up line in a bar 🙂
Good point what is a single man allowed to do in that situation? Is this one of those times where an “exception” is allowed. And the man would be allowed to “collect” what he needed if a doctor requested so?

Not seeing any other obvious reason for collecting a semen sample, why would a single man need to have a fertility test?

FWIW, it is possible to collect a sample by needle aspiration.

I suppose that would depend on the man. I can tell you with 100% certainty that in my case it would be impossible for anyone to get close enough with a needle.

Ya, rly!!

Adoption it is!! 😃

Of course if you’ve had a reversed vasectomy, that means that there’s already been somebody down around your bidniss with sharp objects – twice.

LOL… 😃 For the vasectomy you are awake, just numbed. So my husband said that was the most nerve-wracking one, although he said it was, in reality, a piece of cake. For the reversal they have to put you under, so he doesn’t remember, and recovery was a day spent in bed. He said he wouldn’t want to have to do any of it again, but that it’s not really that big of a deal.

As for the appropriate way for a single man to have semen collected, I think but I’m not positive, that you can have the scrotum massaged via anal means by a nurse and that is okay since it’s a medical reason and “treatment”. How many men would feel comfortable actually doing that is another story, but that’s how you’d do it. 🤷

There was no reason for anyone to get rude here! Having sperm tested is the first easiest step in fertility testing…

Sarah… have you tried the Pope Paul IV institute? They can probably help you get a perforated condom.

Why would a single male have an issue needing a sperm count? Is there a medical reason other than fertility to have this done? Not being snarky, just curious…

So 😛 on you! 😃
You tell 'em!!

I hope it works out for you and you’re able to have a child either naturally or through adoption. Once he/she is in your arms, all the struggle to get there will have been totally worth it.

God bless you both.

You forget, it only takes ONE sperm to make it.😃
Q: If it only takes one, then why are millions released?

A: Because none of them will stop and ask for directions!

With regard to the needle aspiration thing, after almost bleeding out last year when my [then] urologist nicked an artery during a prostate biopsy, I ain’t letting nobody near that part of my body with any sharp instruments. (It’s a moot point–I have no reason to get fertility-tested.)

I agree with you… seems kinda silly to me. Let God take you where He wants and don’t question things… if you have a low count and can’t conceive what will you do? IVF is a no-no too!!
So what will the information do for you then… can’t see the sense in it to be honest. Sorry.

Paul
So if someone has an eye sight problem they should trust
in God and forget seeing an eye doctor?

God gave man a brain to deal with these problems for a reason. We simply aren’t supposed to misuse that power. All infertility treatments are not prohited.

I’m also curious to know why a single man would need a sperm count.

Yeah good point but maybe there would be other things other then a fertility test that would need something like that done? No idea really.

OK…from a nurse…
A single man could need to have sperm collected for several reasons…

Testicular cancer: After certain types of testicular cancer treatments, many doctors want to do a sperm count several times to make sure that things are working properly.

Injury: Sperm count could need to be tested/checked after a tramatic injury. Could be a big difference in “insurance” payout.

Disorders: Some men have been known to actually have huge amounts of urine, puss, ect… mixed with their sperm. This can only be detected with a sperm collection. Any of these means that the man will need specific treatment or surgery.

Now…Please stop wondering why a “single” man could need a sperm collection…

God Bless,
Pam

I’ve always been under the impression that the Church allows a male patient to masturbate for the sole purpose of providing a sperm sample, if there is a serious medical reason for dong so.

Nope, because a) masturbation is a grave sin, and sin is never permissible even to achieve some other kind of good, and b) there is no necessity - ever - for masturbation, since a sperm sample can be got by other non-sinful means like perforated condoms for married people or needle aspiration if necessary.

It would be like the Church saying it was OK to commit adultery for medical reasons.

Stay-at-Home Catholic Dad of 3… is me! (and proud to be)

Ok… I took my hits and I deserve them. My choice of words was insensative and the way it came off was not what I intended and it offended some and I apologize. I see more clearly where you are coming from now.

I do however think that the question of “Is it a sin to collect a sample in a different way?” is what should be asked.

Here’s my thoughts:

The perforated condom: Without the holes it is a contraceptive… and is wrong (a mortal sin) cause it is not open to life and that is the intent of using it.
With the holes… it’s ok because you’re open to life cause the “door” is open to that one swimmer that might get through.

Why can’t everyone use a perforated condom all the time instead of NFP? Isn’t it open to life with the “door” open… NO because the intent is different. In this case you are trying to block life but you could argue that “technically” the one swimmer could get through.

CCC1857: For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must together be met: “Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent.”

Now… “full knowledge and deliberate consent” to blocking life is really what we are talking about here.

If you were to collect a sample by other means I can’t see where it would be a sinful action. Your intent is not a deliberate action against God to block His will for bringing forth life. Your intent is for a medical reason.

Pyropam talked about the reasons why a single man would have to submit a sample. Does he then have to go to confession?
If he went I truely think the priest would say that the intent
of “self pleasure” was not there and therefore no sin has occured
because it was for medial reasons.

Same case in a married couple submitting a sample for fertility testing. Together they could manually give a sample. The intent is for a medical reason and not one for pleasurable reasons and blocking the possibility of life.

I would like to submit this to one of the apologists or to Fr. Serpa and see what the real deal is. From the other posts here I get the feeling that I am wrong and will be the first to admit it and put my tail between my legs and take my beating but I really think this should get an authoratative answer.

😛 And I did deserve this one… sorry Sarah.👋 I will pray my rosary for you today at mass for your successful conception.

Can I still be friends here?

No problem! 😃 Yes… and thank you for your thoughts!

And for anyone interested, I found an answer on the Ask an Apologist forum to the question of the morally permissible means to obtain a semen sample. Not much detail, but it answers the question:

Please ask your physician about a procedure that is very accurate, a Huhner test. It is a post coital sperm count taken . from the woman. This is really good because the sperm sometimes is deposited, but not thriving in the woman’s mucus for various reasons. The post coital count will determine number of viable sperm soon after ejaculation. The couple is at home and reports together to the office after intercourse. It is much more natural and reflective of a count than a piece of rubber that someone is not used to. No moral objections to this at all. Hope that helps.

You are in my prayers. I do want to lend you hope. My husband had a vascetomy in February of 1997 and I had had a tubal ligation in March of 1996. Both occured in a prior marriage. After we were married, we felt we absolutely must right the wrongs that we had done. In October of 2005, we had them both reversed only one day apart. We did this as an act of obedience making it possible to accept the children that our marriage was to be blessed with. We went through the same collection process once and his count was good but no pregnancy (we got our stuff from the doctor 😉 ). We had all of the emotions that you must be having for four months with no success. Finally we decided to let go and let God. That very next month we were pregnant. The point I am trying to make is that it will happen in his time and I am praying for you and your husband. :signofcross:

I had never heard of that; what a great idea! I think our issues have to do more with my hormones than his count, but the hormones are not something they can say definitively make me less fertile. 🤷 I will definitely look into that! 👍
