Where was God on 9/11?

Ummm, where is God when anyone you care to name eventually dies?
The answer will be the same.

God<>tooth fairy seems like a fairly good observation.

God isn’t there to interfere with all human designs and plans. God sees we are fallen, God sees we are frail. Christianity isn’t a matter of believing everything is dandy among mankind or denying that evil exists. In fact, it’s rather the opposite. In Christianity we recognize that we are ill and that we require a physician, Jesus Christ, to come into our lives and help us to be healthy. Evil exists, not just out there but in ourselves, but God has not abandoned us, He has come to show us the way to healing and spiritual health.
 
Your exactly right. Everything seems to be taking place just like I would expect in a world without a god.
 
Reminds me of the answer given in Sophie’s Choice to a similar question of where God was at Auschwitz.

The answer: “Where was man?”
 
What a short-sighted question! If our frame of reference is our Earthly life, then it becomes a legitimate question, but when viewed from the point of eternity, then the question is far less significant.

So if it regularly gets warmer after sunrise then daybreak is caused by warmth?

Simply because some theory is consistent with the facts does not mean it is the definitive explanation for the facts.

Unless of course one was already biased that way beforehand 🤷‍♂️.

Where was Man is a good enough of a faith answer for me.
I stopped believing in tooth fairies at the age of 6…some people never do.

What I would say is that God tends to let things happen unless absolutely necessary, and we don’t know what “absolutely necessary” is because we aren’t God. Hurricanes happen because the prerequisite for “no hurricanes” would be considerably less water in the oceans, considerably less heat, or a mass rewrite of the laws of physics, all of which are bad. Earthquakes and such happen for a similar reason.

Human disasters like 9/11 happen for a similar reason. As we stand, humans have amazing, wonderful tools at our disposal, and we can build grand and wonderful things. But humans are also fallen, and as such, we can also corrupt and destroy, and sometimes other people are in the way.

I follow Liebniz’s “best of all possible worlds” model of thought on this one – sure, this may suck, but any option which would have prevented it would be much worse – either we’d live in a completely incoherent universe, be mindless love robots (which is a contradiction in terms), or simply wouldn’t exist.

It’s not much of a consolation, but it’s what I have.

P.S. What’s freaky is that I’m old enough to have a rational discussion with y’all about this, but I don’t remember 9/11 at all.
 
This is called the problem of evil, and normally Christians and other theists believe it is accurately answered by the existence of free will. God gives His creatures the ability to chose evil over good.

Say whatever else they might about him, God was definitely in close communication with Father Mychal Judge that day.

When we are placed on this earth our days are numbered by God. The time of our death is appointed. It is miraculous that so many people scheduled for death were gathered in one place on that day.
For those who escaped at the last minute and are feeling guilt because you left friends behind I say it was not your time. Your time is coming so you still have time to “get right with God” .
Sorry if I sound “preachy” but I felt someone needed this.
 
Besides with the people that died, God was present amongst the first responders, amongst all those people that rushed to help, in the hospital rooms etc imo

I recall watching a plane crash into the side of a skyscraper on the TV news. That got my attention for certain.

I wish they would rebroadcast that day’s broadcast from the first " breaking news" to the moment the second tower fell.
I would lilke it rebroadcast every year on 9/11
but I’d settle for every five years.
