I believe scripture alone. Peter may be the head of your church, but my church is based on Eph 2:20-22, Jesus Christ is the head of my church. Ralph
Ralph, Jesus is the head of the Catholic church. the church is the body of Christ. There are several roles in the body of Christ:
St Paul said this about it in 1corinthians 12:27-31
27Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it.
28 Some people God has designated in the church to be, first, apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then, mighty deeds; then, gifts of healing, assistance, administration, and varieties of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work mighty deeds?
30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
31 Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts. But I shall show you a still more excellent way
Now, the fact is, the body of Christ has leaders and those leaders were meant to serve the others. As you well know, St. Peter was identified by Christ to be the ultimate leader of his church. This is clear from Matthew 16: 16-19
16Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
19I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven
This was reiterated in the discussion in Luke 22: 24-31 that discussed which disciple was the greatest:
24 Then an argument broke out among them about which of them should be regarded as the greatest.
25 He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them and those in authority over them are addressed as ‘Benefactors’;
26 but among you it shall not be so. Rather, let the greatest among you be as the youngest, and the leader as the servant.
27 For who is greater: the one seated at table or the one who serves? Is it not the one seated at table? I am among you as the one who serves.
28 It is you who have stood by me in my trials;
29 and I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father has conferred one on me,
30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 "Simon, Simon, behold Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat,
32 but I have prayed that your own faith may not fail; and once you have turned back, you must strengthen your brothers

Notice it is Peter that he identifies as the one to strengthen his brothers, after describing what it takes to be a leader.

Finally in John 21:15-21 Jesus also tells Peter to " Feed his sheep"
15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
16 He then said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” (Jesus) said to him, “Feed my sheep.
18 Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”
19 He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”

So Ralph, How can you deny that Jesus defined Peter as the leader of his church. He clearly did in all these gospel accounts . This does not take away form Jesus being the head of the Church. He merely appointed Peter to administer it for him.

We have an inherited sin from Adam, this makes us all sinners. Ralph
Wrong ralphy, original sin makes us all sinFUL, which is subtly different than sinNERS. The difference being that you have to conciously commit a sinful act to be a sinNER, something that babies, small children, and mentally challenged people cannot do (alond with Jesus and Mary).

All people are sinFUL, that is, are born with a sinful nature and have the tendency to sin. Something Catholics (and Saint Paul) call “concupiscence.”

I hope this post helps you realize that all are sinFUL but not all are sinNERS.

QUESTION (for anyone): Were Enoch and Elijah sinless too? They were taken up into heaven and we know that “nothing unclean shall enter it.” Thanks!

Haha, so does MartinR, and he doesn’t even believe that Jesus is God! (no offense Martin) The point is that Scripture is not enough, you need an infallible interpreter. And don’t say that your interpreter is the Holy Spirit because many other people claim to be guided by the same Holy Spirit that don’t believe Jesus is God. And as you know “God [as the Holy Spirit] is not a God of confusion”

Did you believe what was said in Eph 2:20-22. Ralph

All Catholics do. It says that the apostles and the prophets are the foundation of the Church, God’s household. Jesus is the builder and the chief cornerstone. But scripture is clear that Peter and the apostles are the foundation upon which He built it.

By the way, when you put in a chief cornerstone, you build on that. You kind of have it backward, they built on what He said and done. He did not build on what the apostles said and done. The way you say it, they would not even need Jesus. Ralph

Why don’t you stop beating this to death. Jesus founded one church, it is the Cathloic Church (universal) that I belong to, as well as every born again believer does. IT IS NOT THE RCC. It is the universal church that He founded, He DID NOT start the RCC , the RC’s started their own church themselves. Catholic by the way means universal, however I am sure that you are aware of that. Ralph
The Lord founded His Church on the rock of Peter. The first Pope was Peter, the present Pope is Benedict XV1 who, I believe, is the 266th Pope.

If you are serious about learning some home truths, you may feel time spent reading the early Fathers to be rewarding. Far brighter and less sympathetic scholars than you,i.e.Scott Hahn have been surprised, perhaps even embarrased to find after searching for the Truth, that they have been lead into the Church founded by the Lord. Praise be His Name.

Perhaps you may wish to ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. I would be delighted to welcome you home. May Mary, your Mother, and Mother of the Church, pray for you and for us all. Amen.

Well put brother.

LOL. Ralph, I’m using the verse YOU cited.

“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:19-22.

I did not put it “backward.” It’s not my fault what Paul said. Note that, somehow, Paul demonstrates that having the apostles and prophets as the foundation does not exclude the need for Jesus. Rather, it is expressly through Christ being the cornerstone, that we become the dwelling of God. You can’t have a building without both a foundation and a cornerstone. Scripture is abundantly clear that Peter and the apostles and prophets are the foundation, and Christ is both builder and cornerstone.

By the way, Peter calls himself an elder, you call him pope. I am sure Peter would not undersatnd that position at that time, nor would he accept it, being a common fisherman. Ralph
Sigh… This is your response? This is misdirection, not an answer. Naturally the term Pope didn’t exist in the earliest days of the Church … it is a term of respect, and perhaps affection (since it comes from the Latin for Papa), but the term is not the important point. Whether you refer to Peter as Pope or Bishop or Elder, we are still looking at a Church with a definite hierarchy.

So, does you Church have a heirarchy, or is it an unbiblical Church?

I do not pray to the dead, and the dead cannot pray for me. Jesus said, “no one comes to the father but by Me”. Ralph

Why do you think Mary is dead, Ralph? Do you not know that God is the God of the living? That those who remain in him have eternal life?

Peter by the way is dead, he cannot administer. Ralph

But what does santification mean to you? What is it?
Sanctification means being purified by the blood of Christ. This means that I “am” sanctified, and being sanctified as I obediently follow the Lord. Ralph

Let me ask you, did she die? Ralph
In the earthly sense, yes, in that she is not with us anymore. In the eternal sense, no, she did not. She is in heaven and more alive than we are. There are very few protestants who would deny that. I would love to know the basis for your apparent belief that she is not in heaven with Christ.
