I had a relgious question I would like answered but, I am not sure where to put it. Could someone look at it and tell me where would be the best place to insert this.

Why wern’t dinosaurs on the ark? I would figure that there wasn’t really a way to fit them on there but, why not build a bigger ark? And what happened to all the marine life? I would think that it would either be to salty or to non-salty to have salt (or Fresh) water life forms to live? Could someone please help me with this predicament? Thanks and God bless.

Dinosaurs were long gone by the time any person was around, so there were no dinosaurs around to be put on the ark.

God Bless,
Matt

Personally, I don’t know if the ark story is meant to be taken literally or if it is an allegory. I lean more toward allegory and a belief in evolution but I haven’t made up my mind yet.

NOne of what follows is my personal opinion. It is all things that I have read or heard from people that believe in either a young earth or a very literal translation of Genesis. I am not passing any kind of judgement simply giving the OP the information that others have used to explain their beliefs to me.

As far as answering your question though, somewhere I heard that dinosaurs could have been taken in egg form onto the ark. I have heard some young earth people claim that dinosaurs were alive with humans. When I was a fundamentalist my church hosted a talk by a man from the Alpha OMega institute. He claimed that the animals could have all been young and that was why they didn’t attack one another. Maybe that is why they didn’t build a bigger boat. I’ve also heard rationale that all the animals were in hibernation.:hmmm: The marine life and mixing of salty and non-salty water has me stumped though. .

do you have a source that proves definitely that dinosaurs were not on the ark?

Might I suggest that as a “historical controversy” it would belong in Apologetics?

I don’t have one, but, I would think that that would be a hell of a lot of lezard to put onto a single boat with the rest of things.

Here’s one view:

Were dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark?

We’ve had this discussion several times before in here.

I go with a Local flood. There is no scientific evidence that dinosaurs and mankind lived at the same time. Unless dinosaurs are birds, all dinosaurs died 65 million years ago at the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary extinction (also called the KT extinction). In addition, the Paluxy “man tracks” have been abandoned by virtually all creationists (except a few fringe who still promote them, like Sungenis, Hugh Miller, and Carl Baugh, etc).

Historically, it was Christian creationist geologists who discovered that taking the Mosaic Global Flood literally to explain geological formations wasn’t plausible. The 18th, 19th century battles were between the catastrophists (who didn’t accept a global flood, but many local floods and catastrophes), and the uniformitarians (who also didn’t accept a global flood, but accepted a more uniform geology, etc). The uniformitarians eventually won out due to the work of Charles Lyell and others.

The Global Flood idea was abandoned in the 19th century by even Christian creationist geologists and here is the complete history and reasons why (see also links at bottom). It was revived by fringe pseudo-scientists like Adventist George McCready Price (who wasn’t a geologist, nor even a biblical scholar), and Whitcomb/Morris (theologian/engineer) book The Genesis Flood who picked it up from him. Those are the facts. It has no basis in science, and a local flood can be defended biblically if you are worried about that.

If you really think about the young earth theories coupled with a literal reading of the story of the flood, you will find more problems than just dinosaurs.

Without knowing the specifics of the science, however, we can only make pretty wild guesses, such as:

The Earth is young, and so when Noah built the Ark, there was a single continent, thus giving all the land animals a way to get to it prior to the flood. All marine life was able to live in saltwater, and did. When the animals came to the Ark, the dinosaurs wouldn’t fit, so they were left behind and became extict in accordance with God’s plan. After the flood, the animals repopulated the single continent (good thing it hadn’t split yet!). Because of a massive global event, the continents moved from the single continent to their current positions. Some of the sea life was trapped in small inland seas, where over the course of many years the saline levels fell due to only being fed by rainwater. That sea life adapted (not evolved!) to be able to survive the “fresh” water.

I don’t believe a word of it! 😛

I’m thinking that intelligent design, with some evolutionary aspects, has the most credence right now.

But you know the BEST PART?!?

IT DOESN’T MATTER!!! :clapping:

Our faith is so far beyond this debate over origins that we can live happily in communion with our God regardless of the “real” age of the Earth, or whether the dinosaurs were on the Ark!

God Bless!
