I’ve seen aid for Haiti coming from the USA, Canada, the EUROPEAN UNION, France, Germany, even China but I have yet to see where any Muslim country is sending any aid. Especially members of OPEC many of which are extremely rich. Is it because Haiti is 80% Catholic and/or not Muslim?

I was surprised to see that Israel has sent military to Haiti to set up a hospital with 40 Doctors. The US spends millions of dollars a day to support Israel, glad to see they’re finally using a little portion of it to do good…now if they’d only stop their unending persecution of Christian Palestinians!?

Is it against the Quran to help non-Muslims? For some reason I think it might be, but if not I think the only Muslim country that would have finances to help would be Saudi Arabia.

I’ve always heard, by friends who moved here from Haiti, that the majority of the Haitians practice Voodoo, a mix of the Catholic religion with African religions. It is a rare thing to see a Haitian that is a practicing Catholic that doesn’t also practice Voodoo.

Please see the link above. Can’t speak for any countries…but there are organizations that are trying to help in whatever way possible.

The Qur’an in no way prohibits us from helping Non-Muslims…and we are obligated as Muslims to help out.

In any case…the primary concern shouldn’t be where the aid is coming from…the concern should be about the poor people and Haiti…May God alleviate their suffering, grant their sick quick recovery, have mercy on the families dealing with this tragedy…

Islamic Relief has launched an appeal for £1 million to respond to the disaster.

You are right and welcome to the forum…I don’t think we should use this as an opportunity to bash other cultures or religions

God bless them for their kindness to the Haitians

I had a Muslim Dr and he was always a very fine , kind person… I liked him a great deal

Yes, I have to agree with Redrosetea, we should not be waisting our energy fighting with one another when someone out there right now is needing help. Whatever happened to love thy neighbor?

We may not agree on religion, but Jesus preached peace, not war, anger or judgment.

That is only a request for donations. So far no Muslim country has sent any aid.

The concern IS about the poor people of Haiti and the lack of aid from Islam. If you can afford to build the tallest building in the world and a ski resort in the middle of the desert but you don’t help your “brother” there is a problem.

Exactly. What did happen to love thy neighbor? Jesus said if you say to the poor, Peace and Love to you but do not feed them and clothe them, what good was that?

We may not agree on religion, but Jesus preached peace, not war, anger or judgment.

Ricko, you’re taking a handful of rich families and using them to paint the entire faith as perversely rich. I would imagine most Muslims are just as poor as you or I.

If you have issue with certain *families *not donating, then take your beef up with them.

I haven’t read anything about South America sending a lot of donations. Maybe they aren’t donating much either. Why not mention them as well?

That’s wonderful!

I really should read the Qur’an! I have two.😊 I should not have stated what I thought the Qur’an taught, I should have read it first to see what it actually teaches. I hope I did not offend by my comment.

With so many organizations and countries pledging huge amounts of financial support, I hope that Haiti is rebuilt to a betterr place than it was before. Once the money comes in there will be a huge amount of jobs available to the Haitians since there is so much work to be done to rebuilt! Perhaps a blessing will come from this tragety?

May God bless all those who lost their lives!

If your knowledge of what 1.5 billion Muslims throughout the world believe and say is restricted to the real estate purchases of a couple of rich guys in Dubai YOU have a problem. Thousands and thousands of people dying and ricko here jumps on the Haitian tragedy to try and bash people of another faith. Charming “Christian” behaviour.

PS
In addition to aishenglong’s link, in Australia we have a branch of a British-based charity: humanappeal.org.au/Default.aspx

Welcome to the forums. For your first post you, like many others have misread what I have posted. I did not in any way bash Islam. I simply asked a simple question as to why there was no aid forthcoming from the Muslim Countries. I still have not seen any aid coming from any Muslim Country, have you?

By the way, it appears that you are the one with the problem and you are the one doing the bashing. Not bad for a first poster.

Turkey has sent a large amount of aid to Haiti, including a large number of search and rescue teams. (Turkey DOES, sadly, have experience with massive earthquakes.)

This thread makes my eyes spin in circles before I pass out.

They might not keep a running total like we do in this country ricko… I am sure they will give something

The Muslims in the US are doing their part

Thank you and rolltide for your charitable response. I was amazed at the hostility of the other posters.

But actually my question was never really answered. I do appreciate the information on the Islamic Relief Fund which was posted before. I was more interested in the “government” response from those countries. I did see a cargo plane from Qatar in the news on the ramp in Haiti. I was expecting/hoping to see more of the same from some of the other countries.

The Turkish rescue team just found three survivors in the ruins of that supermarket that collapsed after other teams, including our own rescue team, gave up. One American was among the rescued. It seems that our dogs that were trained to hunt bodies were misled by the stench of all of the decaying meat in the supermarket, and thought that there were no survivors.

Ricko, you DID bash Islam even if it wasn’t your intention. This whole thread is based on a hostile assumption - that Muslims are not doing anything for Haiti. Whether this was my first or my fifteenth or my fiftieth post, is irrelevant (and the fact that you are trying to making an issue out of it would suggest something lacking in your own “argument”).

In addition, you equated the actions of the Dubai government with the entire Muslim world and used it to support your claim that Muslim countries have done nothing - a notion refuted by subsequent posters. Are you telling me this:
The concern IS about the poor people of Haiti and the lack of aid from Islam. If you can afford to build the tallest building in the world and a ski resort in the middle of the desert but you don’t help your “brother” there is a problem.
isn’t bashing Islam? How stupid do you think the rest of us are?

It’s not that hard to read between the lines about what the intentions of this thread were - so your supposed surprise at the hostility of other posters is disingenuous and naive.

I agree with whoever said this was a silly thread. Instead of helping people the one thing on Ricko’s mind is measuring what respective governments of Muslim countries have or haven’t done. Really, why start a thread like this if not to bash Islam or Muslims?

For anyone who is interested in more than just keeping score between countries ;), the Islamic position on tragedies such as Haiti’s is outlined nicely here.
