Where's the ark of the OT?

Just curious, what ever happened to the ark which holds the ten commandments? Is it in the custody of the Church in a sacred place somewhere?

Shades of Indiana Jones…I’ve read a few books about this subject. Some, again, some claim that the Ark is in the possession of the Coptic Church in Ethiopia.

This is probably the most recent and the best of all those that have been written. A good read - but no proof.

Supposedly. I watched a little Discovery special on it, where the host went to said church and requested to see it. They’re keeping whatever they’ve got in a heavily guarded little building no one goes into. No one’s allowed to see it, so it can’t be confirmed or dismissed.

Yes, it can be neither confirmed nor dismissed.

There was something in (I think) National Geographic in the last year or so about that too. If I recall correctly, there is one monk who is designated as guardian and he’s the only one who enters. Even the Patriarch stays outside.

2 Maccabees 2:5-8':

The original ark was taken by God to be returned to us when God shows his mercy. He showed his mercy with the Incarnation of his own Son, our Lord. The new type of the Ark of the Covenant for Christians is Mary, Mother of God, for she carried in her womb the fulfillment of the law.
