Where's the tabernacle? :)

Not a question, just something I really wanted to share.

I went to Mass this past Saturday morning. We had a guest celebrant from a parish close by. After communion and before closing the Mass, he asked us “Where is the tabernacle?” We all pointed in the direction of the tabernacle, which was directly in front of him, thinking “he couldn’t have just asked that!”. He then said “Did you just receive communion?..Where is the tabernacle?”

At this point most of us knew to point at ourselves. What a clever way to remind us to take Christ into the world.

Our priest reminded us that after Communion and before we get in the way; we are, for a time,

"WALKING TALKING TABERNACLES"

I liked the imagery and the reminder that we often times become complacent in the reason we attend Mass, the purpose of our “Communion”, Who and What it is we receive and how quickly we fall back into forgetfulness and sin…😦
 
The most beautiful symbology is that the tabernacle, housing our Merciful Savior, is in the front/center, underneath the crucifix. Not only does this show the relationship between the cross and the Blessed Sacrament, but it places Jesus in the most prominent spot in the church.

I have visited many churches around the country - I have seen a great loss of faith in the Eucharist in churches where the tabernacle is removed from the main body of the church. I don’t want to make a blanket statement saying this is true in ALL churches, but the vast majority of them. It seems the church has been turned into a “meeting hall”, not unlike what we find in the protestant churches. No wonder over 70% of Catholics don’t believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament!

Let’s return Jesus to where He belongs - in the front and center of our churches!🙂

In a sense, we become a tabernacle of the Eucharist that we receive for fifteen minutes or so, but this analogy can get a little new-agey if misinterpreted. A sacristan once told me that, since we have Christ inside us after we receive Him at Mass, we should genuflect to one another rather than to the church’s tabernacle.
 
“Where’s the tabernacle?”- isnt that the title to one of the new puzzles in the Magic Eye series?

even tho both you and the first poster (briang 72) were both writting in english; I don’t believe that you were communicating, or prehaps dailymass, you were not listening in the first place.

While the fist poster was stating a spirtual reality(of what should occur, if we are truely aware of God’s presence in our lives), it appears that dailymass was concerned with the physical placement of the tabernacle.

dailymass it appears by reading your tirade that you have an agenda that you want to accomplish.

So unless I am missing something …

please correct me if Iam wrong.

this sounds similiar to our Deacon last week…he said we are all ‘walking tabernacles.’ Interesting!
 
Ours is on the left side of the church. Generally that is where I have seen them over the years. Only one I have been to did not have it in the sanctuary, but in a side room, which is open to prayer/adoration the rest of the time.
