You must have missed the post below or done some “selective” reading.
Thank you, I honestly overlooked that post. Now, can you clarify further:

Regarding the Church now, is She wrong in Her practice of generally extending the Chalice to the laity? Are the Eastern Churches wrong as well?

You are correct in that other so called christian communities originated in the Catholic Church, but when they rebelled against the authority of the Church, they excommunicated themselves. This subsistence theory is a joke. If there is salvation outside the church, why come in to the true faith. **Subsistence is what the Church teaches, not something I came up with. I agree that the “reformer” were guilty of formal schism. I refer you to the Catechism to read what the Church says regarding those who belong to those ecclessial communities by descent now. **

Would you like to take responsibility for souls going to hell, to burn forever just because you want to “bend” a little here and “twist” a little there. This is what is going to happen. The road to Christ is narrow and small is the Gate to enter therein. It is time as Catholics we stop pandering to those who separate themselves willfully from the Church and act like Catholics. Once the true Catholic faith, the one from yesteryear is returned to it’s place of prominence then we can see by the light of Tradition these new ideas are truly of the evil one. **I agree that the road is narrow and few are they that find it. I firmly believe that far more are lost than are saved. However, the Church’s dogma and doctrines, Her faith and morals, are different from her disciplines, which have changed and adapted and may well still. What disciplines can we bend, not even within our own rites, but allowing differences in the rites of others, to save souls? **

I will grant you, on the argument of “fuller sign” that I spoke of earlier, that communion in the hand may need to be revisited, but are you saying that things like the Mass in the vernacular and the lay reception of the Chalice are of Satan?

The term “modernist” that you seem to dislike is the reason you say what you say. To give even an inch would mean we are wrong(and in turn the Church through the ages and our Blessed Lord himself). We will fight modernism in its many forms until Christ himself returns.
Modernism is a specific heresy condemned by the Church. It means what the Church says it means, not what some “traditionalists” like to think it means. I would urge you to read up on it. I have not offered any “modernist” opinion. Some “modernists” may hold the same opinion, but that does not LOGICALLY mean that the opinion is incorrect. I have maintained that communion in the hand is not inherently wrong or evil and neither is lay reception of the Chalice. It is not logical to assert that I am thereby a modernist or a protestant, though some modernists and protestants may hold the same opinion. This is just plain logic and I wish people would argue from that instead of just inflamed rhetoric. The “logic” you are employing is like this: Kirk believes birth control is wrong. Moslems believe birth control is wrong. Therefore, Kirk is a Moslem. Your assertion that the OF is a Protestant service is likewise logically flawed **if **you are asserting that it is ONTOLOGICALLY, that is to say, of itself or of its nature, Protestant, though I certainly concede that I have attended OF Masses (a few) whose spirit seemed to be similar to Protestant services. The written Mass, as it was meant to be celebrated and is celebrated in my parish and is becoming more and more celebrated elsewhere, does NOT in anyway resemble a Protestant service except insofar that it has things in common with the liturgical Protestant ecclesial communities because they have drawn on the same roots (which as Maurin has rightfully pointed out ARE CATHOLIC ROOTS). The EF has similarities with those same liturgical ecclesial communities.

Whether or not Mother Teresa said what people say she did doesn’t matter and the historical facts showing how communion in the hand came into the Catholic Church are shameful. Most traditionalists have issues with some of the things Mother Teresa said and it has no bearing on things either way. For the record it appears that the quote attributed to her is bogus considering this:

And considering this post from AQ where a poster questioned Fr. Rutler himself:

angelqueen.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26293&highlight=mother+teresa
… In reply to this post I wanted to use this info in my Bible/Apologetics study so I wrote to Father Rutler. His Parish is in NYC and I live not too far away in Yonkers, NY.
Father Rutler sent me an exasperated reply stating that the Mother Theresa stoy is not true and that she would be very upset to see this story going around about Communion in the hand. I was shocked frankly.
He intimated that he was tired of seeing this story going around. I can send a copy of the letter to the webmasters here if you would like.

Again with the jargon and rhetoric. You throw out terms like “modernist” and “tactic” to taint your opponent (you may as well come out and say “liberal commies”) rather than answer the arguement.
again, only in your mind. your “modernist” “tactic” is ridiculous. twisting around what I said in order to try to make your point is, well, a modernist tactic which only works on those that Lily rightly labeled as “obtuse.”

Follow the dialogue, and respond appropriately, or consider not responding at all. I’ve answered honestly and in good faith. You have not.

The Eastern Churches do not extend the Chalice to the laity. Their manner of Holy Communion involves intinction in various forms, either by dipping or the use of a spoon. They do not receive in the hand and do not take the Chalice into their hands either.

So bringing them up as a comparison really doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Now if we in the Roman Church went to intinction, I would have no problem with that at all.👍

I’ve followed the dialougue and I’ve responded appropriately and LOGICALLY. I have not employed what is, in essence, jingoistic nonsense that seeks to avoid having to confront the paucity of one’s own argument by villifying one’s opponent by name calling. Demonstrate where I did not respond in good faith.

With respect, Palmas, the issue was “both species to the laity.” In the West, that has generally meant that the laity drank from the Chalice, so that was the mode I spoke of. I have absolutely no problem with intinction either and generally believe that it would be a better idea (and the constant bickering about communion in the hand would also be dealt with, since the intincted Species could not be administered in any other way).

Why would you continue to ask–when I have already given you the answer. Did the Church intend for people to fall into error (as the example I gave prior) --when She allowed the Chalice. No --It is the people who fall into error --we do it on our own.

You have reworded the question. I asked nothing regarding the Church’s intent (the Church cannot intend for people to fall into error and it is classic Catholic teaching that Her disciplines, at the least, also cannot lead people into error). I asked, “Regarding the Church now, is She wrong in Her practice of generally extending the Chalice to the laity? Are the Eastern Churches wrong as well?”

You have now answered what you believe the Church’s intent to be. You have not answered whether or not you believe Her to have been wrong and whether She continues to be wrong. You also have not answered whether you believe the Eastern Churches to be wrong.

YES, but only because it undermines the teaching that says our Blessed Lord is truly present Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity under both species. This means once you have taken of the precious body, you have taken of the whole sacrament.
Are the Eastern Churches wrong as well?"
No, Intinction is not wrong.

JKirkLVNV --you are going around in circles. I already gave you my answer . I said No --and explained why --because Her intent in allowing the Chalice --was not to have people fall into error —but people --being who we are —do it anyway --fall into error.

Oh and JKirkLVNV —since you are big in --Talking the Talk are you actually willing to --Walk the Walk. This cannot be correct according to classic, traditional Catholic teaching, which states that the Church can make no law, disciplinary or otherwise, contrary to Her Own teaching. If that is true and we are obligated to believe that it is, then we cannot believe that the extension of both species to the laity, in whatever form the Church elects to employ, is wrong.

Your “no” in this post contradicts your “yes” in the post immediately preceding it. Which is it?

Where is this “Yes” you attribute to me.

Only some of the Eastern/Oriental Churches administer by intinction. All do not.

Well, YOU say that it is a better way of teaching. On the one hand, we have a tradition going back to Apostolic times of reception of both species, in the Eastern Church as well as in the Western Church up until the 1200s. We also have the Servant of God HH Pope John Paul II’s teaching on the “fuller sign.” On the other hand, we have the private opinion of a person on an internet forum, one who is frequently FACTUALLY incorrect. I think I’ll stick with the Church.

Guess --that means you are not willing to —Walk the Walk.

The Church entrusts us to teach --does She not. We do teach by our own actions --do we not. But you have made your stance clear-- big in Talking the Talk --but in the end not willing to Walk the Walk.
