To Fr Vincent Serpa…

Peace in Christ!

I would like to ask your opinion regarding a certain matter.
For you, which among these statements is a correct expression regarding one of our Catholic doctrines?

A.) God Died
B.) God Died in His Human nature
C.) Only the Human nature of Jesus Christ Died

Likewise, when we say God Died, do we mean it LITERALLY or FIGURATIVELY?

Isn’t it that the PERSON dies but not his NATURE?

Hi,

The person of Jesus cannot die because his person is both divine as well as human. It is in his human nature that Jesus died. But he remained alive in his divine nature. So one can say that God died and that God died in his human nature and that only the human nature of Jesus died—so long as one understands what is being said.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
