I have always loved the singing of Dionne Warwick and am first beginning to appreciate Linda Ronstadt. I once saw Steve Lawrence and the late Eydie Gorme at the Philadelphia Academy of Music. They put on a terrific show, including a few selections from Porgy and Bess, superbly performed.
Linda Ronstadt put out a CD ,maybe ten fifteen years ago,where she sings Spanish Ballads as a tribute to her father,who was a band leader…Her beautiful voice is really best suited to this style of music.Just georgeous!

Doris Day has a beautiful voice and sings very well, but I never cared very much for any of the songs she recorded. I have the impression that the minders who managed her studio contract were too anxious about her reputation to let her choose her own songs, and she ended up recording only a lot of rather dull little numbers that the studio bean counters had chosen for her.
I also remember Linda Ronstadt’s singing of Gilbert and Sullivan, in which she makes use of an operatic tone. She is a very versatile artist.
The quality of Nat Cole’s singing definitely rivaled that of Frank Sinatra’s.Frank Sinatra is an obvious choice. Also, enjoy Nat King Cole’s soft, smooth vocals very much, almost even a tad more than Frank’s.
In regard to female singers, Ella Fitzgerald is hands down the best - her clarity and smoothness was unparalleled.

I suppose it does help to look good as well as sound good as a live stage performer. I remember Judy Collins, who is still performing, remarked when she first saw Odetta on stage, that she not only looked and sounded great but also smelled great. I understand that John Walker passed away a few years ago.I also really loved thevWalker Brothers…The Sun ain’t gonna shine anymore…and numerous other hits.They were pretty easy on the eyes too!
