I am a new catholic desperately trying to find a bible version to choose for my use in study and devotional reading. I have an easier time now that I am catholic and there are fewer versions to choose from, but I am trying to find out what is the most acceptable. It seems to me as if the vulgate or a translation based on it would be the most accurate, coming from St. Jerome’s textual analysis using much older and authenticated texts from that time. I recall reading somewhere that He used the oldest ones available, which were more than a few huindred years old… I find myself uncomfortable with the NAB, as the notes lead me to believe that the Bible is not inspired as they point out so many “mistakes” and contradictions in scripture.
