Which Bishop do we pray for?

In my morning and evening prayers ,in the Intersessions part it has prayers for the Pope and our Bishop

So we say ,and we pray for N. our Pope and N our Bishop

If i am another State or city at the time,do i pray for my usual Bishop where i live or the Local Bishop of the city im in at the time?

Personally I think we should pray for ALL the Bishops of the Church in our private prayers - they all need all the prayers they can get!

By analogy with the Eucharistic Prayer, it is better for one to express a prayer for the local Bishop. Given the flexibility of the intercessions, you can always add another intercession for your own bishop.

The parallel with the Eucharistic Prayer does not hold exactly: in the Eucharistic Prayer, one always commemorates the diocesan bishop because he is head of that local Church, over which he exercises authority, and this unity is acknowledged in celebrating the Sacrament of Unity. One can see this mystical link in the Eucharist , for example, with Ignatius of Antioch “Make certain, therefore, that you all observe one common Eucharist; for there is but one body of our Lord Jesus Christ, and but one cup of union with his blood, and one single altar of sacrifice–even as there is also but one bishop…”.

On the other hand, the intercession at the LOTH has a less mystical element to it. However, if one thinks of it from the perspective of it being public liturgy, a “public” form of worship offered in the name of the Church, then it makes sense that such an intercession would be for the person under whose authority that regulation falls.

You could pray for either your bishop, or the bishop of the diocese in which you’re currently staying. I think it makes most sense that way.

Technically, you should be praying for the bishop that is the ordinary of the diocese you are currently in. Don’t forget, though, that you can add an extra intention.

1. It is permissible, however, to include particular intentions at both morning prayer and evening prayer.

Just don’t forget:

1. In the intercessions at evening prayer the last intention is always for the dead.

So if you add any during EP, just do it right before the last intention.

I think if you’re reciting the Office privately you may offer the intercession for your own proper bishop. If you are reciting it publicly it should be for the bishop in whose diocese you are. In either case, you may pray for both bishops.
