I have a new rosary and wonder if there is some special wording a priest should ideally use to bless rosaries OR should I just ask him for whatever blessing he might offer ?

For a rosary a simple blessing is sufficient where either you or the priest holds the rosary and the priest makes the sign of the cross over it and then touches it. He might even sprinkle some Holy water on it. Blessing a rosary is very straightforward. The priest usually just says words asking God to bless the rosary and all those who pray it with the beads.

Until the promulgation of Inter Oecumenici in 1964, the blessing of Rosaries was a reserved blessing, and only priests of the Dominican Order could bless them. That is why the older Roman Rituals did not contain a blessing for Rosaries. Today any priest or deacon may bless a Rosary using formulas in use from 1964 to 1984 or the formula found in the new Liber Benedictionum of 1984 (LB 506)
So is there a formula for Rosary blessings ???

BLESSING OF ROSARIES: SHORT FORMULA
To the honor and glory of Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, in memory of the mysteries of the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord, the same Jesus Christ, may this crown of the most holy Rosary be blessed + and sanctified + in the name of the Father, + and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. R/. Amen.
Is that it ? does it matter if the priest doesn’t say the right thing ?

Most priests will bless the average sacramental with their own words, not by reading from the book unless it just happens to be handy and they choose to do so. It’s perfectly legitimate however it’s done. As @paperwight said, trust the priest to know what he’s doing. Otherwise, imho, you have no business asking one for anything if you’re going to come online and pre-second-guess.

One example of a blessing Blessing of the Rosary - Fr Richard Heilman

Another short formula - Blessing of Rosaries and Religious Articles (Short Formulary)

Blessing of Rosaries in English According to the Rite of the Order of Preachers

In addition to the short form you posted there is also this longer form BLESSING OF ROSARIES

So there are various forms which can be used. There isn’t just one ‘right’ way, and the others are ‘wrong’.

Have your rosary blessed by a priest or a deacon, and use it, and bear fruit from the graces you receive from using this sacramental.
