My favorite book that I keep reading over and over again, and I think I have highlighted more than half of it, is THE WAY OF DIVINE LOVE by Sister Josefa Menendez.
Anyone else got this one. Looks very interesting.

Les Miserables is fantastic when read through a Catholic worldview. I know it’s pure fiction. Great stuff.

Fingerprints of God and How God Changes Your Brain are both great explorations of spirituality from a scientific, journalistic standpoint. They serve to help us understand why we’re innately born with this desire for something deeper, and why that quest matters, and purely from a neurological perspective as well. Interesting stuff.

Lastly there’s that new protestant book by that kid who made the why Jesus > religion video. Good stuff.

Be careful…to my knowledge Fr. Rohr is a Franciscan priest in good standing with the church. His faithful followers surely outnumber the minority that do not ascend to his mystical approach to spirituality.
I just wanted to caution his work since a couple of people referenced him. His teachings are quite controversial and should not be promoted. Some discernment should be made… here is a good explanation: womenofgrace.com/blog/?p=11460. The issue is his disregard for God as the Father, the church’s teaching on homosexuality, and promoting of New Age teaching.

Please pray for him and others that step off the narrow path. We need our priests!! Mary, sweet Mother, protect them!!

Not a book but…Father Barron’s Catholicism series. Very powerful:thumbsup:

Unapologetic,
why, despite everything, Christianity can still make surprising emotional sense.
Francis Spufford. (Anglican)

Don’t agree with everything, but he tells it like it is and is very, ah, poetic.
One of the best books I’ve ever read.

Again, while Fr. Rohr is a priest in good standing with Rome we must be careful to judge that peer priests or others that openly oppose his teachings are themselves correct…this could be itself a grave error.

Hi everyone,
just wanted to share that some of the books mentioned here, and many books of the early church fathers can be read for free on google play.
I just found this out today when I was searching for one of the books mentioned, Imitation of Christ, and found that it’s available to be read online for free. Just go to google play and search the book title or author name. I’m not sure if it’s downloadable to read offline on the computer though.

Here’s the link to Imitation of Christ:

Problem for me now is that after starting this thread by bank balance has gone down and my book pile has gone up! Got a few on the go simultaneously! 👍

actually… it was Dante’s divine comedy. i know it wasn’t really ment to be a “faith-changing” book, but i found myself trying google if Dante was a saint or not. i guess he isn’t however his impact on me was spectacular. i recommend it to everybody.👍

I just read St. Teresa’ of Avila’s autobiography again. Even better the second time around!

The Reed of God is a beautiful book.

Problem of Pain by CS Lewis

Practicing the Presence of God

Pretty much anything by St. Alphonsus de Liguori

“The History of the Passion” by Fr. James Groenings.

“The Dogma of Hell: illustrated by facts taken from profane and sacred history” by Fr. F.X Shouppe, SJ. Also included with it is “How to avoid Hell” by By Thomas A Nelson (TAN).

“The 12 steps to Holiness and Salvation”: taken from the works of St. Alphonso’s Liguori.
This book was a God send since I’ve been asking for a Catholic 12 step.

“The Sinners Guide” by Venerable Louis of Granada, OP
If you have the Pieta app on your iPhone then you will be able to find this in the books section.

This thread has cost me a fortune! 😃
LOL

For me the first, most influential book was *Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic *by David Currie.

But I was a teenager at the time and haven’t read it since.

The one that really helped my spirituality was Scott Hahn’s The Lamb’s Supper.
