“Day” could also be the interval of light between two successive nights. “Night” could be the period of actual darkness after sunset and before sunrise.

No sure if day is the same as light though…

It would depend on which side of the Earth you happened to be on when the matter first coalesced to form it. The Sun was here first, by about 30 million years, FWIW.

In Judaism a new day begins after the setting of the Sun and the appearance of 3 stars visible to the eye. The Jewish calendar is a lunar calendar. So my question to you is this: As the Sun and the Moon were only created on the fourth “day” of creation, how long is each “day” in the creation story and what is the basis for your conclusion?

The pre-Socratic philosopher Thales (the first of the Seven Sages) addressed this question. His reply was “night came first…by one day.” Possibly doesn’t help…
