Which Catholic Bible would you like to see used as the liturgical Bible in the United States?

I believe I had a response to some of my questions about the RSV-2CE by Fr. Fessio: catholicbibles.blogspot.com/2008/11/response-from-fr-fessio-i-think.html

It deals with the editorial process of the new edition, along with how it was handled with Rome.

I read what is alleged to be, and most probably is, Fr Fessio’s response to your query re the RSV-2CE.

I must say I, too, am surprised that the CDW found places where the original RSV-CE (1965-66) should be corrected while missing so many others; e.g., Luke 1:34 (sorry, I can’t shake this one off). If the best the CDW could recommend was to remove the “archaic” English pronouns and verb endings, and substitute words like “chalice” for “cup”, then I would question their expertise, just as I do the bishops’ conferences, for anything related to English-language liturgical or scriptural texts. ( I am so going to catch it now from certain folks in these here parts.)

I use the D-R for my personal use (this is the best I can do as I am not real literate in the OLD Latin, Greek and other biblical languages…).

CAUTION PERSONAL RANT: People complain of the use of old language, well if the population was better educated it would not be an issue. Sorry but those that have been raised on comic books and Cliff Notes just need to start reading a dictionary and see what the words mean. We need to stop dumbing down our education system so everyone can play on an even playing fIeld. Life just does not work this way. END OF PERSONAL RANT

As a lector, if I could find a way to substitute the Readings from the (R)NAB with those from the RSV-CE, or even more so from the Douay-Rheims, believe me, I would.

Of course, we know it’s perfectly OK for the celebrant (oops, “presider”) to butcher Eucharistic Prayer IV by substituting “us/we” for “man/mankind”

but, then again, two wrongs don’t make a right.
