Jimmy B, if this is the sort of discussion you wanted to have, then fine. You did make the original post, I see.

But, in my defense, here is why I thought the change in the conversation had become irrelevant. Your original question, as the OP, you may recall was:

You don’t have to express an opinion about the rightness nor the wrongness of gay marriage to answer this question. It is even less relevant whether church A has the truth or not in it’s position or if church B does. The question is not about why the churches/denominations have their views. Nor is it about whether their views are compatible with either scripture or any other teaching. The question is simply about whcih denominations support gay marriage. Discussing terms like what is meant by “support” or “gay marriage” might be helpful in articulating the nuances of some of those denominational positions. But you may establish beyond a shadow of a doubt to every protestant’s satisfaction that THE Catholic Church administered from the Holy See in the Vatican is the one and only source of all valid Christian teaching and further that it is against any and all forms of gay marriage; yet doing so will not have any any form address your actual opeing post. That’s why I felt like the majority of this discssion was, in fact, irrelevant. (I’m afraid, this post included.)
I inderstand what you are saying, you might have a point there. . Thank you for your post.

These are well known facts that many have known for literally centuries. NPR reported early in 2008 that 107 Catholic clergy had been convicted of sex crimes against minors. It is a logical conclusion that the number has increased since. Many major newspapers around the country including the Boston Globe have reported that the Roman Catholic church has paid out more than a Billion dollars in damages to the vitims and families of these crimes. This is unprecidented. Irrelevant is pondering whether a source should be considered pro or anti Catholic. No politics needed, only facts and there they are.
If they are so well known then you could provide a source, without a source there is no facts just unsubstantiated statements. Appealing to what is well known for literally centuries comes down to no facts. You ignores my links to the fact that all religions and classes of people are guilty of this crime. That it is a minority of Catholic priest is well established. That other classes of people have more numbers is also well established. It is human failing not attached just to one religion. That you would conclude that it is logical to assume that the number has increased goes against logic.
You can keep saying that and I’ll keep denying it. Circular reasoning does not create truth. Nobody gave a singular institution that power. God didn’t intend for any of us to tell another that their worship and their reverance to the one soverign God almighty isn’t sanctioned and therefore made invalid as declared by one institutional power who has declared itself exclusive in such matters. I can’t do that and you can’t do that. Apostolic Succession went and goes well beyond the Church in Rome.
Do you speak for God? How do you know what God intended? Jesus did say that
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
So you see He did give the Catholic Church that power.

There was no distinction of Orthodox East nor Rome it was the Catholic Church so he was correct.
So then it is fair to say that maybe the REAL Catholic church is the Orthodox church since they were the ones who insisted upon keeping the real tradition of Peter’s seat being first among equals instead of elevating it unbiblically as Rome did.

This is just more giberish. I gave you sources but yet you ignore them because you do not want to acknowledge the truth they speak. You cannot prove anything you speak of. Binding and loosing is a power given to all the Apostles, read your Bible man! There is NOTHING that proves any authority in Rome, Nothing!

I understand that. There was only “the Catholic Church.” But in CAF it is understood most of the time to be the ROMAN Catholic Church that put the Bible together. The implication is often that the East just stood by and watched. So if we were to look through more modern lenses, now that both are divorced from each other so to speak (RCC and Orthodox) I guess we should give more credit to the Eastern Orthodox churches than anyone else for our bibles…

Wrong. Since without the authority given to the Roman Pontiff, you wouldn’t have a bible. period.

When you refer to the Bible you honor the authority and infallibility of the Catholic Church from which it proceeds.

This is true; the Bible is a Catholic Book. Therefore, everything in the Bible, in one way or another supports Catholicism!

Wrong back atcha…there were Biblical canons put together prior to the St. Jerome vulgate canonization that was nicely canonized under the auspice of the Holy Father. The Synod of Hippo and Councils of Carthage convened and canonized the scriptures under the guidance of St. Augustine. We also know that Origen had an early canon along with Eastern bishops as well. Just because a pope put a seal of approval stamp on the final canon doesn’t mean we never would’ve had one. That’s conjecture to be sure.

By repeating this post over and over do you think somehow it will pack more punch? LOL…Deja vu?

Your source was NPR on RECENT events not the centuries that you claim. Even that source was limited and did not begin to cover what you claim. You have proven nothing just flapping of the keys. Of course binding and loosing was given to all the Apostles. Read your Bible pay attention to the giving of Keys. This off topic so if you wish to continue please find a suitable thread or start your own.

The bible clearly supports Peter as first among the Apostles. This thread is not about that so please do a search and you will find a thread on it or start one yourself.

OneTrueCathApos is correct.

Scripture Proves the Church

Pope St. Damasus I in 382 AD first proposed a list of twenty-seven “books” that would comprise the canon. Gatherings, known as synods, of esteemed bishops were then convened in the north African cities of Hippo (393 AD) and Carthage (397 AD). These synods prayerfully attempted to discern the will of the Holy Spirit in deciding what texts belonged in the canon and which did not. The Church well understood the import of this task. Once the canon was decided, it would be closed forever to preclude any tampering.

In the year 419 AD a second Council of Carthage was convened under the leadership of no less a figure than St. Augustine, a bishop and one of the Fathers of the Church. This council confirmed the canon as approved by the earlier synods and forwarded it to Pope Boniface in Rome. The pope then authorized and promulgated the text and the New Testament became a reality, almost four centuries after Christ.

Since none of the synods were ecumenical councils their decisions required papal approbation in order to be binding on the whole Church. That is why St. Augustine and all of the Eastern Bishops of the Catholic Church agreed and sent the work of the synod to the pope for approval.

Finally, papal approbation is required to give ecumenical value and authority to conciliar decrees, and this must be subsequent to conciliar action, unless the pope, by his personal presence and conscience, has already given his official ratification (for details see GENERAL COUNCILS).

You’ll notice no support for homosexual “marriage” in any council of the Church, ecumenical or otherwise.

Honestly, I am ashamed of you for becoming Catholic…
Who are you to pronounce your ‘‘shame’’ on someone in RCIA?

Who are you to declare the Holy Spirit is not working within me leading me to the catholic church?

Should I believe you and just leave now?

By what authority do you make such pronouncements on people earnestly seeking God?
