I put in abuse 2005 and came up with this.
For the year 2005, there were 21 allegations that involved minors as victims, but only five were found to be credible; two were still under investigation and in two instances there was insufficient information.
For the sake of argument, let’s group the two cases under investigation with the two cases where there wasn’t enough information and add them to the five where there are credible allegations. That brings us to a total of nine priests. Now do the math: we had approximately 42,000 priests in 2005, which means that .02 percent had a credible accusation made against him last year.
But this is off topic. The thread is titled: Which Christian denominations support Gay Marriage?
Hello 1HolyCatholic

thank you very much. I want to link this article to a friend of mine. Yes, I should have searched, but I didn’t even see the search box until now when I went back. :o Thank you again and I won’t go off topic anymore. It was just the figure caught my eye and I thought of my friend, so wanted the link. God Bless you my dear.

I oppose gay marriage, and supporting gay marriage is not in the interests of anyone, especially not gays. Although some denominations reject what the bible says on this, they are not helping anyone. If you were sinning, wouldn’t you want to be told?
Yes, of course but does Christ hate the homosexual? Are gays going to hell? even if they find out at 14 years old and die in a car accident, does Christ condemn this?
The official catholic interpretation is that being tempted to sin is not sinful if you don’t give in.
The biggest Commandment is to love one another.
Jimmy, I am a devout Roman Catholic as you know, and I wrestle with the fact that Christ sends them straight to hell. I don’t think so. I am against gay marriage, but not against gay people. Am I wrong?
No. The official catholic interpretation is that gays are called to be celibate. If they don’t choose it, it’s not a sin to be gay, so they wouldn’t be going “straight to hell”

=Jimmy B;4664158]Which Christian denominations support Gay Marriage? Here a list that I have put together based on various internet sources, whose reliability, I’m not quite sure of. So, Please let me know if this information is inaccurate. Thank you!

Apposes Gay Marriage
Roman Catholic Church
Orthodox
Church of God in Christ
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Conservative Congregational Christian Conference
Conservative Mennonite Conference

**Convocation of Anglicans in North America, **
Hutterite Brethren
Orthodox Church in America
Seventh-day Adventist Church,
Southern Baptist Convention
Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America
Supports Gay Marriage
Metropolitan Community Church
United Church of Christ
Unitarian Universalists
United Church of Canada
Episcopal
Lutheran

Moreover, is Gay Marriage morally wrong?

Your Thoughts?
From a perspective on the term “Christian,” which means “follower of Christ,” one may not use this term in conjunction with any term that violates the Teachings of Christ. They obviously contradict each other.

I might also suggest that one seeking such a congregation [certainly not a house of God] is seeking a VERY MUCH warmer climate. But then you knew that didn’t you.🤷

Love and prayers friends

Hello OneTruecathApos

I’m having what my daughter calls a ‘‘senior moment’’ 😃 I’ve scoured the catholic league website you linked and I cant find any article that says there were only 5 cases of priestly misconduct in 2005. Most of the articles on abuse except one seem to be written before 2005 and one in 2006. Having read them, I cant see the reference for the 5 cases you mention. I would love to send the link to a friend of mine. Can you help me? Can you provide a direct link to the church document and relieve my ‘‘senior moment’’ 🙂
Then perhaps you need to “scour” it a little more if you are that interested. I already gave you my source so I am moving on.

Talk about a thread chasing rabbits down lots of different trails.

Back to the OP’s question:

You’ve already had it reported that the Luther Church Missouri Synod and WELS are opposed to gay marriage. The ELCA at its churchwide assembly this summer passed a resolution that if not officially supporting it I understand to tacitly allow for the option.

The United Methodist Church continues to wrestle with this, but for the last 30+ years continues to affirm the “homosexual persons, not less than heterosexual persons are individuals of sacred worth,” but nevertheless “the United Methodist Church does not condone the practice of homosexuality and consider the practice incompatible with Christian teaching.” As a UM pastor I know that I would be brought up on charges even for offering a blessing at a gay marriage if were I to give the impression or allowed it to be construed that I was somehow acting in a ministerial capacity. However, though this basic position remains, support for it seemed to be eroding away at our last General Conference.

The Presbyterian Church, PCUSA, is also I understand ever closer to adopting a position similar to the ELCA.

Hello OneTrueCathApos

I found it with help from 1HolyCatholic. The link you provided didn’t actually go to the relevant page you related to your source. But we got there in the end. 🙂 and I’ve forwarded the link to my friend. I was simply asking for a little help. Good for you moving on my dear, good for you. As to the question, while the catholic churches position is crystal clear that homosexual activity is a sin, but feeling a sexual orientation of homosexuality is not a sin, I know several catholic ‘‘couples’’ who are in a terrible fix trying to reconcile their undoubted love for each other, and their love for God. Homosexual men and women need to be remembered in our prayers, very specifically, because their burden is not an easy one. To live the Gospel they need our prayers and support. One of the problems I feel the catholic homosexual community has suffered is that they have not felt supported enough or encouraged enough in their faith by the church, and have drawn support and acceptance in their own kind. Sin cannot find unburdening in sin. I think as a community of christians, and most especially catholics, we have let down our homosexual brothers and sisters.

From time to time the United Methodists fly a barrage of rainbow flags along the side of the road at their facility near my home. It’s hard to know exactly what message they intended to convey.

We have be realistic. Catholic Church does not recognize gay relationships for marriage. They do not allow women as priests. They do not allow Priests or Nuns to marry.

The former, raised Catholic, Governor of NJ, is now out of the closest after duping his wife pretending to be straight, , and now he intends on being an Episcopal Priest. I wish people the best, in this lifestyle, the best in finding what works for them in life. It’s rather sad they don’t be honest about it from the get go. God hates liars. Tsk…tsk…

I support gay couples living and sharing for whatever reason they may have to do so together. There can’t be a marriage between same sex couples under God… I do not support legal marriage between same sex couples whatsoever. No ifs, ands or buts. I also frown upon them adopting chidren into this same sex relationship. Square peg in a round hole is not what the good Lord had in mind with all due respect to these people. They are born with this attraction and affliction but I don’t play into it as to changing our laws for them.

Confirming people in their sin is not an act of charity, it is an act of malice.

The practices of some United Methodists (including United Methodists in high office), just like in the Catholic church, do not always match the actual official teaching of the United Methodist Church as a denomination.

The Catechism of the Catholic church states that we should accept them and respect all homosexuals. I am with you. I just don’t get how people could think that if a kid is gay and finds out at 14 that he is, that if he dies at that age he’d go straight to hell. I can’t fathom this because God knows what we are to be before we are born. I am not homophobic and never will be.

Even those that don’t act on their disordered desire?
Don’t know, but my friend was in a Baptist church in the Midwest and told me they preached hell and damnation about this. In fact, a father brought his son up front and told everyone to pray to let out the demon in him. I later heard this boy attempted a suicidal incident but thank God, through His infinite mercy, he never succeeded.

Almost 10 years ago my niece called me and asked if I could speak to a young man in her Gay/Straight Alliance group at school. He was from a conservative Baptist church and gay. I told her I’d be happy to speak with him but he’d need parents permission first. They refused of course and would not allow him any type of conseling that would “condone” his sexuality.

Some kids drove by his house one afternoon and surrounded him in his front yard and dumped garbage on him as they held him down yelling “fag” and “queer”. His dad told him he “had better get use to it…” since that is what was in store for him if he continued his perversion. A week later he hanged himself in the garage.

His parents refused to have a funeral for their son as he was in hell. They buried him in the cemetary of the small town they lived in. A couple weeks later I met with some of his friends at his graveside and we spoke the Parting Prayers together as we stood around his grave.

His parents left the Baptist church several years later and moved from the town they had raised their son in.

It was all very sad…I still grieve for this young man everytime I hear the things that gay and lesbian teenagers endure…many times very much alone.

That is awful I bet the parents will be punished from God.
