The Early Church was the Catholic Church.
Not with a capital “C” for catholic it wasn’t. It was definitely catholic, but it wasn’t Catholic until it decided that people who wouldn’t conform to the authority of a single bishop over all other parts of the Church were not to be understood as a part of the Church. That’s when it quit being truly catholic and just became Catholic, denominating them themselves as different from other Christians.

Christ established one and only one Church, the Catholic Church.
No. Christ established only one Church and because that Church was catholic because it shared one common faith in Jesus Christ. All who today share a common faith in Christ (not a common allegiance to a particular ecclesiatical heirarchy) are still a part of that same catholic Church which Jesus built. Those who have mistakenly understood that Jesus was establishing a single eccleisatical authority over the Church erroneously appropriated the term “catholic” and, rather than applying it to the universal Church, have chosen to only use it to refer to their own particular ecclesiastical communion can no longer truly call themselves catholic in the original sense of the world for they don’t recognize the universality of all ecclesiastical communions and fellowships of Christians everywhere as being Christ’s Church. Hence they may be Catholic, and they may (like the rest of us) may have their roots in the catholic Church, but ironically they are the least catholic of all.

LUMEN GENTIUM

This is the one Church of Christ which in the Creed is professed as one, holy, catholic and apostolic, (12*) which our Saviour, after His Resurrection, commissioned Peter to shepherd,(74) and him and the other apostles to extend and direct with authority,(75) which He erected for all ages as “the pillar and mainstay of the truth”.(76) This Church constituted and organized in the world as a society, subsists in the Catholic Church, which is governed by the successor of Peter and by the Bishops in communion with him,(13*) although many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside of its visible structure. These elements, as gifts belonging to the Church of Christ, are forces impelling toward catholic unity.

This beginning of this is far different from what you were proclaiming earlier. Christ’s one holy catholic and apostolic Church. Christ’s Church is catholic in nature as it is holy and also apostolic. This is exactly what the creeds profess.

When the one holy Catholic Church split sadly in 1054, did only the Roman Catholic side keep the truth and entirety of the Faith or did it get split equally among both divorced ecclesiastical spouses? It’s like a cell that split in half. Orthodox don’t believe Roman Catholics to have the truth or validity and Catholics accuse Orthodox Christians of being “defective” because they lack the papacy. Anglicans split from one of the spouses, the Roman Catholics, and RC’s declared them to be invalid. Yet many Orthodox recognize Anglican orders as valid? Does the entire, whole, perfect Church only exist in one of the spouses?
That is an excellent question and point.

It’s not different. No part of the Anglican Communion bears the four marks of the Church.

I tried to find out information regarding the ANCA and it appears that they aren’t even part of the Anglican Communion.

ACNA '09:Okay ACNA’s the Answer: Now What Was the Question?
It is very important to know just what doctrines a church body is going to uphold. ACNA claims to be in the lineage of the Ecumenical Councils. I have news for you: no Ecumenical Council ever approved the ordination of women to the priesthood. ACNA, by allowing this “innovation,” has departed from the 2000 year tradition of the Church Catholic.

Seems to me you have bigger problems than just planting churches. You still have to figure out just what kind of “church” you want to be. Right now it looks like you want to be the Episcopal Church without gay bishops. That is not enough to last for the long haul, in my opinion.
No part of the Anglican Communion is in union with the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church which subsists in the Catholic Church, and the ANCA isn’t even part of the Anglican Communion.

Love to discuss this more, but we’ve really left the focus of this thread. And this time, I’m the cause of us going off topic. I think I’ll see about starting a new thread.

The ACNA is a brand-spankin’-new province so let’s give these poor guys a break! It’s only a few months old! They are in the middle of gaining official recognition from Canterbury and the entire communion. Many of the provinces of the Anglican Communion already fully recognize them as members, mostly conservative provinces.

One, holy, catholic, and apostolic. From an Anglican point of view they meet the criterion, by Roman theology, no. Apostolic, yes. Despite Apostolicae Curae, the Anglicans have been consecrated and gained apostolic succession through the “Dutch Touch” Old Catholic alliances in the early twentieth century. Anglicans don’t believe they had invalid orders prior to that anyway. Anglicans believe the church is holy and sanctified by Christ in sacraments and apostolic succession, in prayer, praxis, and faith. Anglicans believe their church is universal, open to all, even going as far to practice open communion and reach out to people all over the world in mission and charity. Anglicans believe their church is very catholic, available, open, and giving to all races and lands. And “One” in that they accept the one baptism of Christianity whether it be from Catholics, Presbyterians, Methodists, Lutherans, etc. It is one because it has Christ at its head and apostolic succession, one because it is based on scripture, tradition, and the creeds. they are at one with the great commission to go forth and baptize in the name of the trinity. Anglicans believe in the ancient creeds, which are catholic, one, holy, in themselves. You say, “no part of the Anglican Communion bears the four marks.” From your vantage point and Roman Catholic outlook, maybe not. But for Anglicans and many Orthodox and some Catholics who don’t share your view, it is quite indeed viable, valuable, and part of the Body of Christ.

Can you not read what I am? I’m ACNA Anglican belonging to Christ’s one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church****
Because you keep claiming it was the Catholic Church that walked away from the Eastern Orthodox. That would make THEM (Orthodox) the true Church.

You belong to a church that was established by by an unfaithful, rebellious British monarch. It was established by a man - my Church was established by Jesus Christ.
How could you possibly claim that Anglicanism or any other splintered sect is Christ’s one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

Study history, my angry friend.

Hello Elvis, bee-bop a loola! 🙂

Unfaithful, rebellious, British monarch…Well, the English would point out that there was a Celtic Church presence in the British Isles prior to the papacy taking over in England. From their point of view they were simply regaining control of the Church to the times before Roman dominance. I would point out also that the Orthodox churches throughout the Slavic, Russian, Eastern block lands are very ethnic and influenced heavily by monarchs throughout the centuries. Constantine did his share of influence and control. If you would’ve asked who was in charge of the holy, catholic Church back in his day, I wonder what Constantine would’ve said? The pope? Unlikely. And from an Orthodox point of view, the RCC started in 1054 with the absurd excommunication fiasco and thus, in a sense, it was man-made and that the Orthodox are the one, true, church founded by Christ. From the RCC point of view, the Orthodox started this all and walked away, so their bishop in a sense was the first founder of that Church. Pointing out how raunchy Hank VIII was is irrelevent to the significance and catholicity of the Anglican Church IMO. I don’t think Justy is “angry” as you put it. He’s just tired of having the Anglican church dumped on in here. Your profile shows you are “hardcore Catholic” as opposed to a Roman Catholic, just Roman Catholic. He perhaps is the “hardcore Anglican.” 😛

The Anglican Communion isn’t being dumped on by anyone but itself.
Boloney. There are heaps of people in here on a daily basis that mock and chide the A.C. and you know it. They love to quote Apostolicae Curae, as if Anglicans care about that document anyway. And they love to tell Anglicans at every single opportunity how invalid, utterly void, and worthless Anglican priests are.

You have a point about how the A.C. is imploding. But Anglicans of a conservative, more thoughtful, intelligent heritage consider this a blood-letting. It is a purging of the false, phoney, pagan folks that have infiltrated the communion for decades now, especially in North America. You have to give credit to the people in this communion who are trying to make a difference and change things for the better, like my diocese here in Central Cal. These people walked out of the sickening Episcopal Church and are risking their buildings, property, etc. in the name of their principles. They are faithful, good people. And you also need to recognize Africa for its faithfulness to Anglican tradition and conservative values as well. Nigeria has the largest province of Anglicans on the planet earth and they are very orthodox. What Catholics in here who hate Anglicanism do is point out the weak Western nations that have bad elements: Canada, the U.S. Episcopal Church, and the U.K. What you point out to be Anglicans dumping on themselves is what thoughtful Anglicans call “Anglican Realignment.” We’ll see what happens…the ACNA is already showing some bad signs and weakness as well as internal issues. Only time will tell if this fledgling province will make it. I pray it does.

Just the mere idea of me being an Episcopalian would get many folks in here laughing like crazy after all the things I’ve said about that denomination!! Are you kidding? LOL Have you not been here when I’ve blasted them for being neo-pagans or ripped them a new one for being pro-gay and pro-women’s ordination? I’ve torn them apart for their statements about goddesses and carbon footprint stations of the cross, their outlook on abortion, their lawsuits against Anglicans, and their deeply troubling Christology. come on man! LOL That’s like accusing Oprah of being bullimic! lol
