Has and can. But it can only reveal the truth. It cannot take your free will away. It amazes me how People can take other history and accept it, but not history revealed and sealed by the Power of the HS. Go figure.

Show me another CHurch that can trace a Pope back to Peter!😃
A Quaker maxim…“We live in that power and virtue of life of which the apostles lived.” or “Thee tells me what the prophets can say…thee tells me what the apostles can say…but what can thee say?”

Those of my religious beliefs do not seek to “trace our faith” down two thousand years of history…we live in the Eternal Now…we seek to live in His Presence now and hear Him today and share in His life today…“He is present among His people to teach them Himself.” We seek to live in that SAME virtue and power of life the apostles lived…ours is a living faith rooted in our present experience with a Present Teacher in fellowship in Him reaching back to when He called…“Adam, where are you?”

I have no need to disprove your beliefs if they give you peace. If they make your life better…if they make your life an event of joy…if those beliefs cause you to see the face of Jesus in others and makes your heart tender and compassionate…if those beliefs humble you before God and moves you to Quiet Wonder and Awe before His Presence, then hold on to those beliefs with all your heart. If the pope find the same things in those beliefs, wonderful…I rejoice with you.
God Bless you and thank-you. And they do. And I do believe that we will all rejoice someday together in the Perfect world. The way God wanted it to be. The way God will make it be. I pray it can be in this world, but if the next so be it. But I do believe we will all be again One Bread One Body in Jesus Christ.😃

That is beautiful and I can see we share more than you will ever understand.

And the main thing is to Love one another, and pray for one another. And be kind to one another. We can disagree but we can also love who we disagree with. That is by the power of the HS:D I think we can both agree with that!👍

Publisher has still not answered the question. Are there specific known medical facts that determine sexuality ? I don’t think it needs to be agued that heterosexuality is normal. It is the only (natural) way to populate the earth.

What makes those of us wrong, who disagree with you “enlightened” ? PLEASE give me ONE universal FACT that can not be disputed. I will accept ANY conclusive medical study that proves it is not a choice.

The Catholic Church teaches that homosexual behavior is intrinsically evil. That is not the opinion of one man. It is the collective wisdom of millions over the centuries. The Church does not condem someone who feels the urge for the same sex; only acting on that urge.

God created children with “Down Syndrome” yet the medical establishment has seen fit to abort 90 % of those pregnancies. The American Conf. of OBGYN’s has set a goal of 100 % thereby eliminating an entire “class” of people. Are they some of those “enlightened” people ?
We live, we are loved. I do not need to proove to you that someone who has a homosexual orientation is not “sinful”…that is your choice and yours alone. If you choose to accept the teaching of your church, that is ok…if you choose to accept the teachings of your church what conforms to “natural law”…that’s ok too.

That some choose to be moved by violence and take human life because they claim to be “enlightened” does not give me license to treat my gay brothers and sisters differently than I would like myself to be treated. That some “enlightend” people choose to own others in slavery based on biblical texts…or discriminate race based on biblical texts…frees me to discriminate against those whos sexual orientation is different than min…an orientation I believe is normal and natural.

I will stand before the Eternal and accept whatever judgement there is to receive from His Hands…“He does all things well.”…I would rather trust in my own understanding and err on the side of love and compassion, than embrace beliefs of a religious institution that are wrong, yet who claims to speak for God…I will trust my own experience of God’s love and mercy…and this experience with God moves me to embrace my brothers and sisters who have a homosexual orientation.

I place myself in Good Hands…if I am wrong…I err on the side of love and mercy…I’m ok with that. And I will owrk to change laws and policy along with others to stop the discrimination of GLBT…and we ARE making headway.

Publisher still does not seem to be listening. If you will carefully read my post I stated that the Catholic church teaches that homosexual BEHAVIOR is intrinsically evil. The church does not condemn someone with homosexual desires; nor do I.

All I asked you is if there were specific medical reasons to explain homosexual orientation. This is not a religious question.

I simply asked why homosexual behavior is not a choice.

I agree with you. The CHurch does not condemn the person it condemns the sin. As much as we want to love eachother and accept eachother we cannot accept sin. No matter how we try to sugar coat it sin is sin and leads to death. Death of the soul.

The Church is not here to make friends it is here to save souls. And rather you like the truth or not, you will get it in the teaching of the RCC.

The Church has never turned away a person who had these feelings. It just does what it can to help them resist the sin. No matter how much I love my Children I pray I could never love them enough to have to overlook their sin, and not try to teach them right from wrong. What kind of parent would I be to say okay I love you so go ahead and sin its all cool. Not a Parent that God asked me to be thats for sure. I would expect no less from his Church.

Friend, I do not know…nor does the medical/psychological community know the reasons for different sexual orientations. Human sexuality is still a new field…research into the brain and how certain traits are exhibited is not fully known. Is there a “gay gene”? I don’t know…is there a “straight gene”?..I don’t know. Is it “nurture/nature” or “nature” only? I don’t know.

What we do know is that outside of religious understanding, homosexuality is a normal and natural variation of human sexuality. Sexual orientation seems to be as unchangeable as eye or hair color…one can wear colored contacts and dye one’s hair…but one’s hair and eye color stay the same. Is it genetic only or is it partially genetic and partially some other cause or natural occurance that hasn’t been discovered?

One is homosexual whether one acts on it or not…just as one is heterosexual whether one acts on it or not. If your religious beliefs tell you homosexual behavior is a “sin” that is your religious belief. If your religious belief tells you that sexual acitivity’s primary purpose is procreation and any activity outside of that base belief is “not being open to life”…I understand that…I don’t agree with it…but I understand the proposition.

My faith tell me sexuality is benign. It tells me not only is sexual activitys purpose of procreation, but it is not the only purpose. It binds people together…it is a physical demonstration of two people’s love for one another…it is a pleasurable activity that is intinsic of human behavior.

One is not compelled to have a sexual relationship…one has no say on who one is attractied to sexually or one’s seuxal response…if one acts on that, it is a choice of course…the choice to act on one’s homosexual feelings/orientation as one chooses to act on one’s heterosexual feelings/orientation.

I support the right of self determination. I support the right of homosexual persons to form loving, mutually affirming life long relationships with all the rights and secular priveleges due to heterosexual persons. I support the right of homosexual persons to adopt and form families, not your or your churches definition of families, but families just the same. I also expect the same “moralality” from gay and lesbian people as I do straight couples…life long monogomous bonds through civil marriage for stablility. I support my Meetings decision to bless those relationships through the Quaker marriage ceremony if those gay and lesbian couples wish to put their marriage under the care of the Meeting.

Homosexual sexual activity is no more a sin in and of itself than is heterosexual activity. That it does not conform to your religious beliefs is not a deep concern to me. If your particular religious institution chooses to not bless or santify those relationships…that too is a choice in behavior…I am for civil equaltiy…and if religous bodies wish to re-examine their stance and bless those relationships, all the better.

I am not for refusing same sex marriage based on religious beliefs…nor am I advocating that religious institutions who do not find themselves in a place to bless same sex relationships be penalized…keep religious belief and restrictions out of the civil arena which is not governed by religious belief.

Publisher, While I agree with you that a person cannot control what they feel, you must agree that they can control how they react.

Just how anger could lead a person to kill, you know that killing is unacceptable to God so you must not do it. So you must control your anger and feeling to kill do you not agree.

But now I am confused on this part. What is the teaching’s on gay marriage. Is it for it or against it? It can’t be both. Or are you saying you Church does not see the act of the same sex a sin at all? Or are you saying your church does not know? I don’t understand what you are saying. Thanks.

My mistake. From what you have written here your CHurch see’s nothing wrong with gays getting married. Could you explain to be then how it gets around what God said that he made woman for man not man for man? Because I am afraid that is in the bible quite clear.

But how can you contradict yourself here. How can it be procreation with man and man or women and women. You say you agree with the bible teaching, then you turn around and deny the teaching?

The Coptic Church.

Now tell us why it matters.

Thank you Publisher for continuing to validate that only attitudes have shifted the debate on deviant sexual behavior; not science. You and those who believe as you do have only your personal opinions on the subject. To say that “outside of religious understanding” homosexuality is normal and natural is not only anatomically inaccurate, but also untrue.

Aside from religious teaching (which by the way is the basis for all moral thought in the western world)there are those who consider not only homosexual but other promiscuous sexual practices to be a detriment to socirty in general.

There are more different STD’s today than you could count. HIV AIDS started from “deviant” sexual activity. When I say deviant I mean using body parts in ways unintended by nature, which caused injury to the participants…Now it is rampant all over the world.

Who said free and open sex binds people together ? IMHO if we hadn’t had such a breakdown in heterosexual morality over the last 50 years, we wouldn’t even be discussing homosexuality, let alone gay “marriage” What’s next?

Rinnie,

Sexuality encompasses procreation…and no one is disputing that biologically it takes a male and female…or in some species who are both sexes to procreate.

Creation is diverse. Man and woman shows the amazing diversity of God’s creation and displays that humanity is created in the image and likeness of God. Sexuality encompasses procreation…but it is not restricted to procreation ONLY. It is a biological method in most higher species to bond with one another emotionally. Sexuality is “multi functional”…procreation is one aspect.

I do not share the Catholic belief that all sexual activity must conform to the whole…“open to life” scenario. Sexuality is a natrual and normal expression of human bonding, procreation not withstanding. Procreation is one aspect of sexuality…not the only aspect.

I believe humanity is created in God’s image…the account in Genesis is mythic…it is not a “blow by blow historical account.”…theologically it teaches God created all in existence. God created humanity and the natural world.

The restrictions of homosexuality in scripture are ALWAYS to be seen cultural restrictions against pagan worship practices AND violent homosexual victimization.

The Bible and ancient Hebrew culture had no distinction between homosexual or heterosexual…for all intents and purposes it saw everyone as the bearing the same sexuality and any deviation from that was not normative.

My faith community does not embrace the Catholic understanding of sexuality.

No one is speaking of “free and open sex”. AIDS/HIV and STD’s are not transmitted between an uninfected monogomous couple. No one is adocating promisouity…please provide that portion of my post which indicated promiscouous behavior was acceptable.

We live in a world that 150 years ago allowed human slavery. We live in a world where 50 years ago riots in the street was taking place because the religious teachings of Western society allowed discrimiantion based on skin color. We live in a world until the early part of the 20th century women had little or no rights. Not all beliefs based on Western history dominated by religious belief is good.

“Who said free and open sex binds people together…”…I don’t know…who said that?

Strides in equality and freedom from oppression often cause harsh and violent words and actions…this struggle for the equality of a segment of society is no different…but we are making inroads…we are making progress…our children as adults will still live in a world where discrimination based on sexual orientation will begin it journey as a thing of the past…but I pray to God our grandchildren will not be burdened with such discrimination…God willing.

But Jesus did. He said marriage is between a Man and Women. He came back and made it quite clear. I understand that your faith does not take the Catholic view but what about the Apostolic teachings. Does your Church then say that it is fine for a man and man to have sex? And if it does, could you show me scripture to back this belief. Thanks.

Lets use the word of God for our teacher shall we.

Genesis 2:18 God said its not good for Adam to be alone he needed a SUITABLE PARTNER. get that suitable partner.
  1. Gen 2:20 It had to be a human
  2. Suitable partner was a woman
  3. Suitable partner was ONE woman. Not many. No Eve, nancy, Mary, and surely no STEVE.
  4. Adam is to enter a stable relationship
  5. Adam and Eve should be fruitful and multiply.
  6. JESUS reiterates the teaching of Gen. in Matt. God made them Male and Female. Get it Man and Wife. Female and Male. Its clear as the nose on your face in Matt if you missed in in Gen.
Now what more clear teaching could there be. How could you possibly say God did not mean what he said?

But how could it be any other way without marriage? And how can there be marriage between man and man when the bible forbids it? If you do not want to call it free and open you can call it whatever you want. But sex without marriage is a sin. And marriage in the eyes of God must be Male and Female. ITs all in the bible quite clear. Male and Female thats what it says. Adam and Eve husband and wife. Thats what it says.

My faith does not base itself on “sola scriptura”. We believe God is to be a Living Experience and Reality, not based on a book or a creed…but a living faith.

The writers of the gospel have Jesus quoting the Hebrew Bible on the subject of marriage…since he is not recorded about speaking about same sex marriage, I cannot turn to chapter and verse proof texts. I believe that what the Bible does tell us is concerning the nature of God and that God seeks to be expressed in human relationships…in this expression we are made in His image. Gay and Lesbian people too are made in the image of God…and the Life of God is expressed and experienced in their lives.

My faith community accepts if two people who choose to live their life in commitment to one another under the care of the Meeting may petition the Monthly Meeting to take their relationship under it’s care. A “Clearing Committee” is formed and they are interviewed and counseled concerning the responsibilities two people have toward one another who commit themselves to each other in marriage. Once the committee is satisfied that the couple understands the sacred commitment and affirm their bond in love are given permission by the Monthy Meeting to schedule a “meeting for worship for marriage”.

At the appointed time the Meeting gathers and the couple sit on the “facing bench” in front of the Meeting. Prayers, advice, short instruction concerning the responsibility of marriage…they then stand and face one another and say to each other…“In the Presence of God and these Friends, I _______ take thee,_______ to be my partner, promising with divine assistance to be unto thee a loving and faithful partner so long as we both shall live.” The couple sit and awaits whoever has “care of the Meeting” to turn to the person next to him and shakes hands…all shake hands and the Meeting is over. The couple then signs the certificate of marriage with all present adding their names to it.

Our understanding is based on the worth and dignity of persons which the gospel of Jesus of Nazareth calls us to. Our understanding is based on the belief that God is present among us and has led us to affirm their worth.

We reached this conclusion based on years of discussion, prayer, discussion…listening to those who would bear their testimony of God’s grace and mercy in their lives and watched them live the life of Christ out before the Meeting in dignity and integrity of heart and spirit conforming themselves to gospel of Christ.

The Spirit of God has led our Monthly Meeting and Yearly Meeting to open our hearts and Meeting to their ministry to us as we are humbled by their character and kindness in a world that treats them with disdain and discrimination calling them “sick”, “perverts”, “abominations”, “defective” and “broken”…they have shown they are none of those things, but instead children of God due respect and dignity of life.
