The 4:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Vigil Mass. I’m spending Christmas with my Jewish friends! 👍

Merry Christmas to each one!

Luz Maria

Midnight Mass… my entire life!

I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;
I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas Day in the morning.

And what was in those ships all three,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day?
And what was in those ships all three,
On Christmas Day in the morning?

The Virgin Mary and Christ were there,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;

On Christmas Day in the morning.:christmastree1:

I will be attending a 7 P.M. Vigil Mass because 1) I do not like to be mashed in by a crowd, such as what one encounters at Midnight Mass, and 2) Since I retired, I hate to get up much before noon!
Two thumbs up!
👍 👍

4:30 PM Vigil for the above-mentioned reasons! 😃
Funny thing is in my neck of the woods the 4 and 7 pm vigil masses are the ones that are packed. Midnight masses are full, but not packed. Have to do the early morning mass (6 am) to avoid the crowds. Interesting how different areas of the world have different attendance patterns.

So, which Christmas Mass will you be attending this year? What do you like most about the Christmas Masses?
Have we gone back to calling it “midnight”? The USCCB website is calling it “Mass at Midnight”. I thought it was “Mass During the Night”.

In any case I will be attending Mass at 11:00pm on December 24th and at 10:00am on December 25th.

I love singing Christmas music. After all the “secret” practicing it’s great to finally be able to sing at Mass.

At my parents’ Parish, the 6PM is so packed that they have it in both the Church and the Gym!!!

Midnight Mass is less hectic 😃

I think ppl where getting confused. The Vigil Mass is the evening of the 24. The “night Mass” must take place at or after midnight. It could be celebrated at 2AM if a parish wanted to.

The emphasis of the word midnight means that it happens on the calendar day of Dec 25th

God Bless and Merry Christmas

I will be attending the 4pm Vigil Mass tonight with my family and I am reading at the 8:00 am Mass on Christmas day. A double dose of Christmas!

Will be singing in the choir at the midnight (11pm) Mass.

At midnight we will be singing Joy to the World. There will be a 30 voice choir, a fully open pipe organ and two trumpets. Every corner of God’s house will shake and vibrate with his praises, and when the last note is silent, the air will still shimmer with his praise.
And yes, we will be modulating up on the last two verses.
It is an awe-filled experience.

Is there really a rule that the night Mass must take place on December 25th? Where is this stated?

(I’m not trying to be confrontational. 😊 I just really want to know.)

I’m in charge of the Christmas Pageant again this year, so I will be at the Vigil Mass with the children; after that, I’m going to go to the Midnight Mass, for me. 🙂

Normally I’d go to midnight Mass at our Benedictine abbey. However we had a huge ice storm over the weekend and have been without power for three days. We live in a rural area which means no water (no power to run the well pump). We’ve been making daily trips to a local spring 10 km away to fill up water jugs for drinking, cooking and flushing toilets, and heating with our wood stove. I also had to clear a path in the snow and ice to an isolated power pole (the one feeding our house) so the hydro guys could get at it with their cherry picker. As I write, we still have no power since about 65 hours.

We’re beat and smelly on top of it, so we may defer until Christmas day Mass if the power returns by then. If not, we may miss Mass altogether this year. It’s only happened once or twice before (illness or travel).

I will keep you and yours in my prayers tonight.

Just been to the Vigil Mass and will be going to the Christmas Day Mass. I was delighted to see so many people at the Vigil Mass. I suspect it will be quieter tomorrow, assuming the Bishop can find a priest for us as our priest is ill. The priest we had tonight said he didn’t know what had been arranged.

My personal preference is Midnight Mass but this is my precious husband’s first Christmas as a Christian (currently in RCIA) and he can’t stay up that late so we’ll be going to the 8pm Vigil Mass tonight. Frankly, I’d go to any Mass he wanted to attend.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Limited access to the internet too, I imagine. My prayers for you.

This year it will be the vigil Mass…

My beloved stepfather is at home in hospice care and isthisclose to leaving this life…

It’s a tough holiday…

I’m planning to attend the 5:00 children’s Mass. My child is grown with children of her own, but I’ll be watching the little ones opening their presents tomorrow and I’d get too sleepy and crowded at the other Masses this evening. Besides I’ll get to see a little skit the children have been working on.
