On another thread, a fellow Christian stated that he got his interpretation of Scripture from the One, True Church. I’m curious to find out which Church everyone thinks this One, True, Church is. 🙂

The One True Church is Jesus’ Bride of course.

If you were asking which church has the fullness of Truth I would be a little more specific. 😃

I’m curious to see what a non-Catholic views as the One, True Church. 🤷
Probably which ever church they happen to be attending.

But it will be interesting to see how their church is the OTC over all the other non-Catholic churches with different teachings.

Let me take a crack at it then.
Try the Buddhist church.

Or the Hindu Church.

Well the old denominational debate will bore you. Obviously
informed Catholics and Orthodox
will have there way with some
denomination that’s probably only a few hundred years old.

Which church is a trick question
because in Christianity there is obviously the Catholic and Orthodox.

However I think you will find it interesting to see Orthodox and Catholic debate, because they have the same tradition…and STILL can’t agree.

Well, that’s humanity for you. We can’t agree on much of anything, but everybody knows that they are right and everyone else is wrong. 😉

The question seems of curiosity pretty much to Catholics. Many Protestant churches don’t think about it, certainly most people don’t. What has that got to do with anything? Anyone who thinks they know the answer is merely reflecting a position their church takes and they agree with. Most churches don’t make such pronouncements. It has little to do with following Jesus in any event.

I respectfully disagree. I know quite a few Protestants who believe that their Church is the One, True Church. Evidently, the person I noted from the other thread does. To make my position clear, I believe that the Catholic Church is the True Church. I think we have the history to prove it, and since Jesus is not going to physically stand before us and tell us to our faces the exact meaning of scripture, I think it’s illogical to believe that He would not leave a physical authority in place so that no error would enter His Church. That being said, I don’t have the education to argue whether your beliefs are good, evil, or somewhere in between. What I am is, is curious as to if you think your Church is the True Church and why.

Orthodox will disagree with that statement.

The one true church of God is the entire body of Christians that are truly saved. Christians become members of the church (body of Christ) by faith.

There are no denominations mentioned in the bible. Followers of Jesus were called Christians.

They were at one time the same
Church. So how could they not have come from the same tradition?

Sorry its not that simple, although I wish it was. There are Jehovahs witnesses true wolves in sheeps clothing, that prey on people who
think a Christian is anyone who is trying hard.

I have the opposite experience in that I know many Protestants and none of them make the claim that their particular church is the one true church.

Of course you could start studying the Bible and find out first hand what is God’s truth is and what is error. If you are really concerned there is no shortage of information available for you to study.

I love this, a baseless assumption that because I’m Catholic, I don’t study the Bible. I didn’t say I was concerned, I said I was curious.
How do you know what is God's truth and what is error? How do you know that any error isn't in the way you interpret God's Word?

Code:

A better question to ask, how do you know pete, that your interpretation (or that of the popes and councils) is not in error?

Personally, I trust myself and the written Word much more than someone who presumes to be God’s direct link, spokesman, but hey, freedom of religion.

In trusting yourself, don’t you presume yourself to be the direct to God. As I said before, it seems illogical to think that Jesus ascended to Heaven only to leave everyone to interpret scripture by themselves. Since humans rarely agree on anything, doesn’t this invite division in the Body of Christ. Isn’t it logical to believe that Jesus left some physical authority so that the message remains the same through the ages, not like it is now with one group believing this, and another group believing that and so on. I don’t doubt your faith and I believe it will lead you to Heaven, but I believe the the same of my faith and that is Jesus and the Church He founded.
